October Meeting??

October 20th is paint-the-house weekend for me. I'll show up to a meeting if it rains that day, but I can't host without that kind of uncertainty.

Yes we had the usual president, vice president treasurer etc....until a few meetings ago. The club basically voted to disband the BOD due to apathy(for lack of a better word). The problem was the same people had served the same positions basically for years and nobody else wanted or was willing to serve. The powers that be also were frustrated by new ideas typically being shot down by a couple of individuals.
In essence the "problem" being that the club wasn't growing and so newer people weren't willing to step into positions in the BOD. Just to be clear and open this unwillingness includes myself due to obvious time constraints during the school year. Although I am more than willing to help out when I have time.
We were able to sign up several new members during the meeting at the Coral Reef however and IMO it is a crucial time to have meetings and to continue to make those new members feel welcome.
Maybe we should vote to reinstate the old BOD (if willing of course) and schedule another vote for later in the year (say around Christmas or whenever) to allow some new people to run for office????
Just an idea....don't shoot me:p

Chris

I'm sure new members of the club would like to know what the member ship fees are being used for. :D

Here is another thread to help dww:

I was looking for that one runner, glad you found it.

Group funds are used for things like corals to frag at meetings, our part of frag swaps we are involved in and the Christmas party. In larger clubs funds can be used for things like speakers at ceartain meetings etc....

hth, Chris

Thanks.
Who take care of ETRC webpage? When will it be up dated?
Donna

That would be me, although I would love to have an apprentice to pass on my wealth of knowledge (and to do the grunt work). My goal is to update it as soon as we have a meeting site settled upon. I fail to hit that target often. I am also willing to update it as people provide photographs or article content.

Ok, so if there are no volunteers to hold the meeting, lets go ahead and try to agree upon a public place for this meeting... Its only two weeks away now...

 It's unbelievable the lack of interest people are showing in coming to a meeting much less hosting. IMO just set a date, time, and place and if they come good if not then they weren't interested anyway.:bum:

Art~ Where do you feel like eating this time??? I've recommended Lemon Grass to all my clients this week... lol :D You ran off without your trap... Can I just leave it on your porch???

Perhaps we can narrow it down to a style of cuisine??? Italian, Mexican, Chinese???

As far as Mexican goes, there is:

Abuelos Mexican Embassy (Turkey Creek)
Pelanchos (Downtown West)
We have a little hole in the wall Mexican place up here thats good Cantarito's (Oak Ridge)

Really, as long as they have Dos Equis on tap, I'm game... lol :D Anywhere else I'm missing???

Is the meeting next weekend or this one?

I can't make it if it's this weekend, but it turns out I'll be in town next weekend.

ETRC needs alot of work.

FWIW the ETRC has functioned very well for several years now. It was the first reef club established in the state (the MTRC was formed after the ETRC) and has consisted mainly of a few people that have kept it going. Unfortunately some of those people are no longer active and some have had things happen in their lives recently that have prevented them form contributing.
Instead of just a flat criticism why don't you post some of your ideas in This Thread and help to be part of the solution:)
It's easy to just point out things that are wrong and we all know the club isn't what it used to be at the moment or what it can be again. It's much more productive to be a part of the solution:)

The meeting is supposed to be October 20th...

I'll volunteer

I'll volunteer

If the preference is to have the meeting at a member's house on the 20th, I'll offer my place in West Knoxville up. I've been meaning to do this for a while, and my cyano has been cleared up for a few months so I'm not so embarrassed any more!

Some caveats, though: I'll be on a business trip to Arizona until late the night before, so if something gets screwed up with my flights I might not be home in time - it'd be good idea to have a backup venue at a restaurant or something like that. If we have it at my place, the food would need to be 100% pot luck because I won't be here beforehand to prepare anything (and Sarah is off on a business trip to Russia, so she not available to cook either). I could certainly fire up the grill on the deck, though if folks want to do a BYOM (or V). Lastly, the tank probably won't look its best because I'll have just gotten back. We'll have someone here watching the house and the tank, but you know how it goes - most of our house sitters are reluctant to do anything with the tank other than feed the fish unless it's a dire emergency.

Post replies if this sounds like a good place to have it despite all the caveats.

Jeff~ I think it would be great if you could host!!! I'd much rather go to your house than meet at a restaurant... I know it was mentioned earlier that some new members might feel uncomfortable at a house meeting, but no one has really chimed in on a public place either... How would you want to handle cancelling if your flight schedule changes???
