Octopus Camouflage

Reaper

In Memoriam
I was just looking at this old diving thread. It looks like the octopus has camouflaged itself as an Open Brain coral

On the move,

Can they do that?

That is amazing!

Octopus communly change color and texture to mimic their enviorment. In fact there is a octopus species that even mimics live organisms like stingrays and sea snakes!!:eek2:

yes, octo can mimac any color or shape they choose, in just a matter of seconds amazing right?

the octo looks as if hes tring to look like a devils hand coral, found @ fish supply .com

Some octopi seem to be better at changing colors than others.

Now class, does anyone know why they can change colors :D

For the record, they can't mimic any color they choose because they can't see color. They use texture, brightness and context to produce different colors, patterns and textures. As far as we know, these are not learned responses, but have been hard-wired by natural selection.
