pretty livestock... but $3 for a blue leg hermit the size of a pencil eraser???

am i just used to good deals, or is this a rather extreme price?

It's in Berkley.

I'm from sacramento and have been there a few times and would agree the prices are on the high side

Let's be honest, the prices are very high there. Once I saw $90 for anthelia, I had to laugh.

The store is well kept and the fish looked healthy. If you have a mortgage in Berkeley, you can probably afford to shop there. Else, you might stop by periodically to browse, etc.

We've been there a number of times and haven't been pleased. Their livestock always looks great, but the prices and advice are less than stellar. (I can even forgive some of the prices in light of the nice livestock, but they don't mark the prices on many items and the value seems to fluctuate day to day. hat really frustrates us.) One time, they suggested that we put three large tangs in our stocked 90G tank once when we asked about a nudi for some hair algae...

I stopped by there after work a few times, but gave up on the store due to the owner being rude.

I only visit New Alameda, Amazon Aquarium, and Lucky Goldfish on my way home now.

The one time I was there, I was charged $20 for a peppermint shrimp. Didn't even realize it until I looked at the receipt later at home. Needless to say I never came back.

Were is amazon aquarium located at?

They are pretty overpriced. Almost $30 for false perc clownfish???? Lol As soon as I saw that I didn't even ask for the prices of their corals. I only go to New Alameda Aquatics, and lucky goldfish for salt because I use OceanPure.

OMG $90 for Anthelia, I have a rock that is about 10inch by 7 inch covered top to bottom with Anthelia that I have been thinking about selling. How large was this piece there were selling?

I remember seeing some pretty cool puffers there before... Golden, Mappa, Guineafowl. The Guineafowl was a particularly psycho fish. Erin called it the Crazy Fish.

yeah, i didnt really wanna mention it, but the owner is really rather bad at customer service.

while i was browsing through the store, having a good time observing all the interesting livestock, he came up to me and bluntly asked "so, are you going to buy anything?"

i guess thats one LFS that im not really going to be supporting...

I don't know, not that large.

I used to scrape the stuff off the walls of my aquarium and flush it down the toilet. I wouldn't put that stuff within 10 feet of my aquarium, lol!

I would venture to say, it is the weed of the sea. I have tryed to kill mine, serveral times over, only to find out that is grows faster when you do that. I had some survive 3 months with no lights...Only light it had was the room light. I have enough right now to give every BAR member a good size frag. Any takers hehehe :D

The only times we go to OG is when we are looking for a specific livestock. OG has a good habit of stocking harder to find critters, at least the times we were in the market. But yes, the pricing in general is not one that could be considered a "draw" for that store.

As for the owner, the times we have been there he was quite polite and helpful, but then again, we had called ahead (to check stock) and he already knew that we were there to buy, so maybe that was why.

Hehe.. I've been there when he's been normal and polite too, so I know he can be that way if he chooses. So that just makes it more weird if he decides to be rude. Cause you wonder, "dang, did I do something wrong, or is he just having a bad day?" If he was consistently rude, I could almost deal with that as his natural personality.
