Does anyone know if this (referenced below) would be a good skimmer? I currently have a prizm, so would it be better or about the same?

I realize that, but i don't want to spend $150.00 on more junk, so does anyone know anything about this skimmer.

Im not a fan of combo things when it comes to filtration.

Get the Coralife super skimmer or a Aqua C Remora.

If you want hang on filters save a few pennies and get a Magnum canister filter to go with the skimmer you choose.

I use a CSS 65 (80 bucks from Drs Smith) along with a magnum can filter (60 bucks at LFS) on my 55.

If you like that skimmer get it as a standalone product.

have a prism and it pretty much blows. (I use it on my 46 now). I went with a corallife super skimmer and added a high pressure air pump to the air intake and I have 1/4 inch of black water every two days. 142.99 at big als. good luck

Theres a guy on nano-reef.com that has owned this octopus skimmer. He says it skims well, but it's loud. I could not get any information from him other than that.

Someone seriously needs to try this thing out and give us a report out. Who knows, could be the next big HOB skimmer. I just ordered an MCE300, so that counts me out :)

I ruled the MCE300 out b/c of all the (iffy) reviews. Why did you decide to get that one. I could reconsider. Thanks.

Have you tried modifying your prizm? I bored out the venturi and added some fishing ling to the impellar. It is not the greatest skimmer, but it did improve the performance. You might want to try it until you decide on what skimmer to get.

Could you elaborate (grin) a little on that. I would def. modify if I though it would help and I knew how. I asked about mods beofer but everyone said it was such junk it wasnt worth trying to mod it.

one mod that worked ok for me...prop the thing up about another 3/4 inch above the tank... this allows you to run it closer to full open and will greatly increase it's ability to "dry skim". Also, get the media basket and load it up with something to help "restrict" the ammount of micro bubbles it adds to the tank.
best I can tell ya... I may try a few sm holes in the impellar and some fish line - I heard it works ok.
