Octopus recirc skimmer WTH

Ok, I have a octopus recirculating skimmer. It was running fine other than the fact that I had to clean it every 2 days. The other day I notice that the breather line was pinched so I unpinched it. Now, my skimmer has been sucking all the water outta my sump and almost burnt out one of my pumps.
No matter how low I run it I seem to come home at night to the same problem. If I turn it down the slightest bit the level of the skimmer just drops all the way down to where the recirculating part comes out.
Any mods or ideas on how I can fix this problem?

Thanks,
Zac

Your question is kinda confusing. To me at least. If it's the recirculating skimmer you're using a separate feed pump (not included with the skimmer when purchased new) to pump water into the skimmer correct? Is the skimmer in your sump or is the pump that feeds your skimmer in the sump? A picture might help.

No, definitely not evaporating. It overflows my 2.5 gallon jug in minutes.
I will try and get a pic but yes the pump that feeds the skimmer is in the sump. Not the skimmer itself.

Sounds like it was adjusted & running with that restriction.

Can you adjust the exit pipe so the water level is at the 1st bend?

If so, i'd set it there & give it a day or so. Then close the pipe slowly over a few days 'till it's skimming again.
