Originally posted by Linda C. Does anyone in CDMAS own an octopus? Does anyone know of any good articles/books/information sources?
-THey are fussy: require pristine water conditions
-They are highly carnivorous. Don't expect to be able to keep a cleanup crew or any other tankmates
-They are highly intelligent: All rocks must be glued into place as the octopus will move whatever it can. In order to alleviate bordom they appreciate toys. A tight fitting cover is a must to prevent escape attempts.
-They are relatively short lived. Even under ideal conditions they only live a few years.
at union a guy that works there has cared for a few. first off they do require clean water. water dirty means a octo trying to escape constantly till it is found dead.second dont fool yourself....they will outsmart any obstacles in the tank. everything must be octo prooffed. pumps intakes and importantly the lid. and even then they still present additional issues as they learn fast. good species only tank inhab....and also a great challenge. u got time and no constrates in your life like work......get one .
actually fromwhat josh has told me its not too difficult as long as you make aspecifoc tank for them. also they do live short in aquaria. and research is a must. after that experience is the best teacher. this has good links
