I was just at a LFS and they had a Octupus From the Gulf. They didnt know the exact specie it was though. Has anyone ever tried one before. I know they are very smart and can get out of just about anything. I have all of that covered. There is no way he can get out of my tank. I know you cant put anything in with them, which is fine because i either want to do him or jellyfish. Feeding i was just going to throw some guppies in there and some other food for him. What do you guys think. Give me some feedback on this or any help you have. I dont know if i should do the Octupus or the jellyfish. I think either one will look cool.
thanks

The octopus is definitely a better idea than the jellyfish. Jellyfish need special tanks and really aren't all that interesting after a few minutes IMO. Lots of people have kept octos from FL. I would ask about their care over in the cephalopod forum. Just FWIW they usually only live about a year, so you probably only have a few months before it dies if it's an adult.

A few year back I caught a small brown octo in the St. Joseph State Park Bay near Mexico Beach, FL. It was very cool and lived about 10 months. It never grew more than 4 inches long. It ate everything in my tank that was not a coral (i.e. hermits, crabs, shrimp, fish). When it cleaned out the tank I fed it live green muscles from the local seafood store. I didn't have a secure tank and it never climbed out. Hope this helps.
