odd clown growth

JELWYOMING
I have a breeding pair of clarkii clowns in my 115g reef tank. Aside from a chemistry slide when a chili coral when down, water quality has been great. Yesterday, I noticed an odd light colored bump on the chin of the large female Clarkii. I looks like a zit with a single light hair coming from the center of it. I am assuming it is some sort of parasite. Is there anyway to treat her in the tank like this that won't harm the inverts/coral? I have been tempted to use Kordon's Ich Attack. It is supposed to be reef safe and good for removing parasites. Is it worth a shot or is there something better?

It sounds like a parasitic worm to me. I don't recommend Ich Attack for two reasons: One, if it is a worm, it probably won't work against it very well since Ich Attack is intended for external parasites. Second, in my experience I have found Ich Attack to be a complete waste of money because it really doesn't work even on external parasites.

I have never encountered parasitic worms myself, but you may want to try http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=15555&N=2004+113017 as it is intended specifically for parasitic worms.

I would wait for a response from someone who has had first hand experience with this, or who can verify that it is in fact worms before you try any type of treatment that may be unnecessarily stressful/harmful to the fish and other inhabitants.

Not sure what (if any) parasite your dealing with .. but to my knowledge there is nothing that is "reef safe" that you can put in the tank to kill a parasite.

I have found that formalin baths are effective against a wide variety of parasites ... isn't going to help if your dealing with an ich problem but that doesn't sound like what you have. You should consideer Qting since other treatments may be required and catching fish within a show tank can be a real PIA.

Heres a link discussing how to give a formalin bath.

Hope this helps.

It looks like what ever it was, has fallen off and the small sore is healing up. It also may have just been part of the Clarkii's body that was sore too. Looking closely, it looks like she has two bumps or wiskers below here lower lip. They look like part of and and are colored like her body. The bug that I first wrote on was one of these that was a bit red to start. All normal skin color now.
