Odd question

I have quite a lot of aptasia in my sump, I was thinking is it possible to stop the flow to my display for a couple of hours and super boost the salt level in the sump to kill these buggers off ?

My sump is 150 gallons, so the plan would be to leave the salt mispxture standing for a couple of hours and then add rodi to it to start lowering the levels before turning the pumps back on ?

There is nothing else growing in the sump or living there either, I already did a manual clean a couple of weeks ago and while it did remove about 80% I am having a reoccurrence that I would like to nip in the bud.

Thoughts ?

I put one in my display tank and my emporor Angel ate him, I bought the biggest one I could find, same with a copper band and same with a file fish and peppermint shrimps

did you try Kalk Paste? Joe Juice? Aiptasia X?

I usually use lemon juice which works a treat, I am asking if increasing the salt level really high will kill everything / all aptasia ? So I can simply burn it all with the super strength salt

Berghia nudibranch? From what I've read they only eat aptasia. Nothing else.

It might be better to empty the sump completely and scrape them off with a scraper or razor blade, rinse it out then add fresh saltwater. You might get problems if there is a lot of die off then you turn the sump back on. Just a thought...

That's a good point, I could run my uv burner and pump the water through a filter sock and scrape the sides / bottom of the tank, I don't really want to empty the sumo as its 150 gallons and takes 25 hours to produce that about of rodi water, I don't have a vessel to hold that much, my 45 gallon brute container is the only container I have handy / clean.

I'm going to give it a go tomorrow and see what happens, I'm assuming this will be similar to kalkwasser on the sump.

Leave it there and let it be king of the sump.

It may work but then you have to raise sg so much that you can be sure all the aiptasia will die. There are 2 problems with this approach. First, if the sg is not high enough it'll just get the aiptasia to release a ton of spores which will enter your DT. Second, if everything in your sump dies you'll probably have an ammonia spike which could affect your tank when you put the flow back on.

I use aipstasia x and it works every time. Just make take two-three treatments.

aiptasia x works well. Even comes with a needle which is good to inject it into the base to kill it. A lot of times people don't do it correctly to kill it. Best way is to inject it into the base of the aiptasia.

So what do we think the sg would need to be to kill aptasia off ?

There isn't anything else in the sump, I removed all the rocks and substrate a couple of weeks ago, once I have a clean sump I am going to start the rocks and sand off again new

As I stated above, I already did this, I'm looking for a complete clean out, obviously something remained and I'm. It going through this every couple of weeks.

I'm going to give it a go tonight if I can

Drain the tank and clean it completly with a mix of vinegar and water. Make sure the rock in the sump dont have any, they can be small but my guess is thats where they keep comming from
