ODYSSEA T5 fixtures

I am researching reefs right now in preparation for setting up my first. I pretty much am stuck on lighting right now as that is the only hardware I need to finalize.

I have been reading a bunch of good and bad things about the Odyssea MH fixtures but cant seem to find anything about their T5 fixtures.

Anyone have them?

I am thinking of getting two or three of them for a 30gal long depending on how wide they are. I would prefer 6 bulbs but donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t know if I have room. I need to know if the 36 inch ones will fit under the canopy as well. From what I can tell there are really no actual 36 inch T5ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s anyway so that must mean 36in tank which is fine. It looks like the actual fixture may be a little shy of 36 but who knowââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦hopefully one of you?

IceCap or Tek

IceCap or Tek

I think most RC members are recommending IceCaps or Tek as they have individual reflectors that is very important to proper T5 lighting.

I have them and like them. For the price, I don't think you can go wrong. I have the 2 bulb 48" HO units. They are not individual reflectors, but you get 1 reflector for 2 bulbs, and from what I can tell, if you want to, upgrading to individual ones should be possible. I run 4 bulbs over my 55.

I wouldn't buy from aquatraders though. I have good luck with everything I've bought from thehobbypalace.com

basically i see that aquatraders is horrible to deal with, and oddysea is not that good of quality stuff. but I have sen a local tank that is oddysea mh/t5 lit, and it looked great. btw theres t5 and t5ho... the ho is much better

I've been to the Aquatrader shop as it is only within miles of my home. They don't know anything... also, there were LOTs of returns that were repaired and resold as refurbished units. So, they may have some quality control problems.

If looking for the best T5 lighthoods, go with Tek lights. Many RC members are buying theirs from seedsetc.om and the bulbs are dirt cheap when you buy them at the same time with the Tek lighthood.

I drove to aquatraders to look at their PC and T5 fixtures. They're junk. They're not bright at all, and the spectrum seemed poor. They just don't match up to the real McCoy that you'll find elsewhere. Why not spend a little bit more and get a retro online or something? I'm very please with my PC's from Hello Lights, they were on clearance, cost me ~$100 for a 2x96w setup.
