Off topic - buying a SUV

I had a Mazda CX9 and loved it. If fact, going back to it next year after my current lease ends. It is larger that mid-size, but you get an excellent value for your money.

What about the toy highlander or 4 runner or possibly a Ford edge or the flex or explorer all really nice rides

I wouldn't trade the gas mileage advantage of a full side car unless you really needed a SUV. The yearly difference is substantial.

I have a 7 seater cx-9. Great people mover not great at 3500 pounds limit for towing. The main reason I love the cx9 is for look and handing. Does not feel like a big truck/suv.I drove the highlander recently and the ford explorer but the one that like for towing and price was the Durango RT.

Hyundai Santa Fe have issues with cam and crank sensors
Ford escape rear plugs pita to change and ford knows that so costly to change
I would really stay away from anything ford
And no I'm not a Chevy guy I just really dislike ford
Honda and Nissan are your safest bet
Big fan of the pathfinder easy to service and very reliable

Escape rear plugs usually aren't a problem for the end user since they won't be servicing the vehicle themselves. 2.0 hours for plugs isn't that bad of a labor time, so I wouldn't consider that a downside. Plus that's only with a V6, the 4-cyl is bulletproof.

The ML is a great SUV, I own an R Class (Same basic vehicle). But, I work for Benz so It's not like I pay for anything I have to do to it.

The Hyundai's have a great warranty, so if you like those go with that. The power train warranty on a Ford is pretty fantastic, and you can get a CPO warranty for only a few grand extra at signing up to 200k miles if you want.

I wouldn't touch anything Chevy, nowadays.

The Rav 4 isn't a bad vehicle, but I think as far as comfort goes it's definitely at the back of the list.

Now is likely the best time to look at a Chevy as the US has them under a microscope. I vote Jet Black "Secret Service" looking Tahoe.

Only way I'd buy a Tahoe is if I could have it exactly like the one Samuel Jackson had in the second Captain America movie, guns and all. :)

I have a Saturn outlook. Thing is awesome never thought I would like it but my wife made me do look at it. We ended up buying it. Seats 8 comfortable and the seats fold down with a flip of a switch and I can fit a full sheet of plywood back there it's so big. It can fit big fish tanks in the back to transport not to setup :). Gas isn't to bad for SUV 20mpg. It's huge inside but more of mid size SUV on outside.

Being a shop owner I would say...... Nothing at all. Everyone has there opinion and I can list off problems with every suv listed. GM big transmission problems, I am building 1 a week of the new front wheel drives GMs. The Hyndias and Kias "Same drivetrain" have a great warranty but you need to fallow the sever maintenance schedule and if you dont your warranty is void also if you buy it 2nd hand the warranty is cut way down. Ford well I will admit they are better then they used to be and I dont see a lot of problems with the SUVs from the new ford yet. Dodge Dont even get me started. More problems with the drivetrain. Toyota. Now I am a Toyota fan but I dont want one made in the Good old USA. Sorry guys we dont put them together as well as the Japanese do. If you want a toyota look at the VIN. If the first letter is a J this means built in Japan. Honda same issue as toyota but harder to tell where it was built plus lots of transmission problems. Nissan Build quality is not what it used to be plus same problem as toyota and honda. Plus inner rad leaks that destroy trans and computer. The Mercs and BMW are nice but cost more then most can pay and the cost of maintenance is crazy New BMW maintenance cost per year 1800$ VW can be nightmares

I have a Toyota Sienna and love it, it is old now but i haven't have any problem 1999 almost 200.000 miles and still works great

I have a 2013 mazda cx-9 GT and I love it. It is comfy, drives smooth, more than enough room for my family. The only thing I would like to see improved is the gas mileage, and according to the service manager I spoke ttothey are supposed to be equipping them with the sky active technology.
Before leasing I looked at the rav4 which felt about the same size as our prius, I didn't like the look of the cr-v and the pathfinder just didn't compare to the cx-9.

Goodluck

We've had an '11 Honda Pilot for about 4 years now. I think Honda considers it a "full size", but when you drive it, it feels more "mid size". Anyways, it's really a great car. Honestly the only thing I don't like about it is the mileage (16-18 around town).

Our last SUV was a '99 4Runner which I also loved, but my wife got loose once in the rain and no more 4Runner... The full time 4 wheel drive and traction control in the Pilot gives me piece of mind. Plus I'm just not a fan of the newer Toyota's plasticy interiors.
