What the subject said, 78 or 79 pontiac trans am "smokey and the bandit" it has to have t tops in decent shape, I'm looking for a fixer upper. Thanks in advance if anyone can help me!

Oh man. The first car I ever bought was a 79 "smokey and the bandit" t-top turbo TA. :D
I'll ask Don, my car buff neighbor, to keep an eye out for one.

Just remembered something Jim did you know 78 and 79 are different body styles?
77-78 is the model used in the first bandit movie.
The 79-82s are larger and have a plastic nose. Think smokey & the bandit II. They stopped using big blocks in either 79 or 80.

Yes, Thanks Amy. Actually I realized that after I posted this. Actually I need a 77 or 78' they have the front end style I want along w/ the engine. I found one in NY and think I might go for it, keep looking though. I just put the boat out in the yard for sale: to go even more off topic 91' rinker cuddy cabin 23 ft. w/ 5.7liter V8 Very clean and nice runs perfect w/ new prop and lots of extras. $8500 w/ nice trailer. (just for now Amy, and I'm keeping the skiis)

What kind of condition are you wanting this car in? I am all over the state with my job and have seen several of that era in driveways and such around the state. However none are driveable and need restoration. Most are restorable (not like they have weeds growing around them or anything) but deffinately not driveable. So let me know what level of work you are willing to do on one and what type motor you want in it and I may be able to help you out with the location of the vehicle. Also are you willing to take one without the motor or do you want it original?

GOT ONE! Found a sweet 78' w/ everything I was looking for for a nice price in upstate NY, and I got to see Niagra falls to boot! Thanks for the help too.

Here's a few, its no super charged stang Jason, but it'll do for now;) until I put in the blown LS1:D

Blown LS1? I think it would be cool to keep the original 400 in it.

Either would be pretty cool though. :)

Just an idea, either way I will keep the original 400 on an engine stand if I do. I have all the original engine parts including the a/c and it has the factory 4 speed tranny. Its no slouch as it is now though.

Based upon things I have read, the 400 Pontiac was one of the few performance cars of the late 70's. Does Edelbrock make performance aluminum heads for it? If so, using an Edelbrock power package and a compression ratio in the high 9's should make for a very stout engine.

It actually has heads off a 67' GTO which are 10ish w/ a edelbrock performer rpm intake and 650 edelbrock carb, he's sending me the specs on the cam. I would like to go w/ aluminum heads later though. I have all the original parts too. Thanks for the info too!
