About 2 months ago when I started my new job I finally got my own office. I knew first off I wanted to put a small tank in there. I had some stuff lying around from my first SW tank that was a 10 gal nano FOWLR that was less that successful. I wanted a reef and with all the knowledge that I have learned over tha past 2 years on RC I felt I could make it work this time. Should have taken build pics but it literally came together in an afternoon! Now that it has been successful and stable for a while, I wanted to post some pics.
The Specs-5.5gal AGA, Red Sea nanofilter, Coralife 18w pc fixture, Tetra 5gal heater, Elite mini A-130 internal filter
The Pets-yellow tail damsel, firefish goby, 2 blue leg hermits, one reef hermit, 3 narsarius snails, 2 astria snails, and zoos and gsp.
I made the hood out of that cheap wood paneling from the back of cheap dorm furniture so its super light. glass top was cut by lowes, light from amazon via old giftcard, I wired a computer fan to a old cell phone charger to vent the heat from the light, the leds are the Current expandable system ones from the AC, the redsea filter has a mini tetra biobag for mechanical/chemical filtration and Seachm matrix rock, the internal filter provides flow over the LR and has a sponge for bio/mechanical filtration. I origionally intended it to be a FO tank which is why i choose the small light but the zoos and gsp are hardy enough to deal with the lower light and probally like a little bit of nutrients in the water. I top off daily with RODI from home and perform a 1gal WC every Friday morning. I am considering adding a small single bulb retrofit pc light from nanotuners (24 bucks) what do you think? Suggestions welcome. I want to put on a modded AC70 fuge but think that they are expensive new so may just wait to stumble on a used one someday.
