Office Tank on a Whim - 3gal Picotope

Holy crap, I just reread that last post, need to stop using Swype on my cell!

I meant *is a bit overkill and *in a few months, lol!

Just read this whole thread. Saw it mentioned on your other so had to check it out. Looks like you have done some nice upgrades here looking forward to seeing how it goes. You are brave it always hard to keep the parameters on something as small as this but I'm sure you will do well. Best of luck looks great. Ps as you get some sps frags in the larger tank as it grows out you should put in them in here for giggles. Bet they would grow with this lighting.

I actually just added a ric and some ORA green birdsnest fragged out of my big tank today!! Then right after found out they are shutting down my building at work and transferring the whole site out to somewhere else (not sure on Houston or Dallas yet).

So, unfortunately, nothing else will be added to this tank for the foreseeable future and it's likely to be torn down. Bummer... :thumbdown

Very sorry to hear the news. When time comes why not move it home on a temp basis and hopefully the situation will allow for you to take it back in. Either way that's a tough deal.

Thanks guys. Nope, my position is safe, but the future location of the site is kind of up in the air. Debating whether to take the pico home or just sell it off...

I say drain it about half way down, cover it with a bag and drive slowly home :) Then just plug it somewhere out of the way and figure out your next move.

Im going to wait for things to settle down a bit then make a decision on the tank. For now, it'll stay where it is and with the current livestock.

I moved everything from my office to home by draining the entire tank into a 5 gallon bucket with a lid (so I could drive fast), got home threw everything back in and then left 15 minutes later. Total break down and set up time was 20 minutes plus a 30 minute drive.

Agree, I don't think the move will be bad using a 5g bucket. I don't think I want to have another tank setup at home though, plus I would need temperature regulation (cooling and heating) because my house doesn't stay nearly as even temperature as the office does.

I've got a couple of months to think about future plans before the building gets shut down, so a little more time to watch it grow and decide what to do... :)

Man, what a neat little tank. Sorry about your yellowstripe maroon. It looked good and healthy in the pic. I was thinking with the tank on your desk. How much work do you get done? lol, I know if I had one on my desk i'd constantly be messing with it.

Thanks krkosiba! The goal was to stay mostly maintenance free so not much work messing with it. Most of the distraction comes from people stopping by to check it out! I WC once a week and feed / topoff daily, thats about it.

The fungia is doing alright. But definitely moving now and unsure whether I can setup the tank in the new office so probably getting torn down...

Very cool looking pico!

Thanks trigs!

So I couldn't find my yellowtail damsel at feeding time this afternoon. I suspected the overflow box, but when I pulled the filter off the tank all I found in there was two trapped hermits (2 of which were still alive).

So I dug further, and found him in the bottom compartment of the InTank basket on the AC70... No CLUE how he got there. To get there from the pump side would have meant getting through a pad of bonded filter floss. To get there from the return he would have had to sneak through a sack of carbon. Maybe he did it by osmosis?? :)

Either way, back in the DT no worse for wear. Fungia is still looking good, zoas have grown, and surprisingly even the tiny ORA green birdsnest frag I threw in is growing and has good color!

I'll post some pics after I have time to clean up the tank a bit, the glass is a mess... :)
