when i checked him saturday morning he looked normal again ( no time for a pic ), so i put him back in the tank. he had been back on tank water for a while and i changed out the reactor and sock carbon.

i'm going to grab some more pics when the lights come on. ( still keeping them crossed but the FWD i prepared is long gone :) )

sorry for the low light but i have aim my lights off the the side to get a good pic without glare ( 400W 10K's :) )

if things look good until the weekend i think i'm going to try running the phosphate remover again. i will start with a small dose and feed the effluent directly into the carbon reactor. unfortunately i need to run some type of PO4 remover to prevent HA algae blooms ........... this is one of my maxima's in two weeks :(

A4twenty- I dont want to sound like my $hit dont stink, but you dont NEED phosphate remover to battle hair algae. Crank your skimmer, lessen your feeding, and do some water changes, and you can get rid of it. I have a tank that is very fish heavy, and do not and probably will not ever run a GFO. I just skim hard baby.

If you are having hair algae blooms, you might also want to try a sea hare, they are algae eating machines!
I feed heavy too and don't use RO water for make-up, I have a lot of herbivores and they eat stuff as fast as it grows.

i know i don't 'need' it but i feel guilty if i feed any less. i do 40g monthly water changes on a 160g system. i am running a euro-reef RS250 with gate valve, that skims like mad.

food wise:

daily ( three hours apart )

1 pinch ( dime size ) Omega One marine flakes
1 pinch ( dime size ) Ocean Nutrition prime reef

three times a week

1 1/2" x 3" nori

twice a week

15 ml phyto ( dropped this drastically )
about 1/4" of frozen Cyclop-eeze bar

once a week

1 cube Hikari mega marine algae ( in 3 or 4 servings on saturday )

1 silverside or some mysis or a few krill ea. for the anemones but i watch and make sure they eat it.

fishwise i currently have: purple tang, 2 false percs, 2 green reef cromis, three stripe damsel, sixline wrasse, green mandarin, lawnmower blenny.

do you think i'm over feeding?

hermits can handle them well too. buy a handful of tiny ones!

i have 25 - 30 but your probably right i could use some more ( mine are almost all blue legs ), what type would you suggest?

i think i have to much flow ( 35 - 40 x ) and to many anemones for a sea hare. i do use RO/DI, just made a batch and the TDS was @ 2. it's time to change the pre filters and DI resin anyway, maybe i'll ditch that batch and make some new.

I second ezcompany's suggestion. For that size tank though, I might buy two handfuls. They won't eat it at first, but if they're starving, hair algae starts to look like steak. :)

That is quite a bit of feeding! If most of your feeding is for fish, then I would cut back a little bit...just a suggestion. :)

decided to hold off on the PO4 remover and still running the carbon. he's looking ok so far

here's a pic of him with his baby brother :)
