ok so i couldn't stay out of this at all. its barely 1.5 week and im back in already. anyhow, i sold practically everything i had except my ro/di unit. well now that i am starting over, i picked up a nano cube 24. Here are my questions:

1) i thought that i've seen sw tanks with darker substrate (black) instead of the white agro. Anyone know where to buy this stuff or if it isn't for sw?

2) i'm thinking going fowlr for a while maybe just a frag or two of corals. so i'm looking for some live rock. 25lbs or so, anyone have any for sale?

3) anyone know a good place to pick up a maxijet 900?
thanks again for helping out. ;)

I got some pumps from you before. If you want the 750 I got from you... you can have it for the same price you sold it to me for...

I have black substrate on my nano, it's for salt water, by seachem. check out here

Also you might consider maxijet1200 instead of 900. on my 12G, the 1200 is just about right, but it's all up to you.

i was reading on nanoreef and they were syaing that the 1200 would put too much heat out and for the extra 60 or so gph you could get another 900 and run 2 and still be under the wattage usage of the 1200. i was thinking of using the 900 but what are your experiances with these?

The 1200 is the better way to go in my opinion. You are going to be dealing with heat issues in the summer, but those issues are going to exist with any pump you run.

www.nanocustoms.com is a good place to start wasting your money!

I have the NC24 and have managed to drop lots of money into it.

There is the moonlight fix so that the moonlights can be put on a timer. There is a ballast upgrade so that both the lights can be run on seperate circuits. There is the chiller for the third chamber. There is a Hydro flow for a wavemaker type current. Some people turn the 2nd chamber into a refugium.

Essentially the list of mods grows and grows.

Those are the best threads that I have found for the NC 24

I think I got my sand at Ost or Petco, one or the other. But just a warning, that sand is kind of big in size, it's nothing close those powder like white sand that everybody is using, it's almost like 1-3mm in size. the biggest ones probably 4mm. I am not going to have any jaw fish or gobies, that's why it's fine with me. and I actually like it better then the fine powdery sand.

maxijet 1200 does give out way more heat then it suppose to, at least 1-2 degree higher then the rest. I want a clean look and I don't want to cramp 2 power heads in it, thats why I go with a 1200 instead 2 600 or 2 900. just as JAnwyl said, you have bigger issue with heat at summer time then a 1200 alone. I can keep my tank at 80-82F with a 1200 as main pump, maxijet 400 for skimmer, and a 250W MH + 32W PC.

welcome back bro, have u consider one nanostream from tunze or maybe maxi 900 mod. If you going to do another top off, I have one more float switch for u.

Do you still have that 10g in your garage.....I would consider turning that into a sump to add more volume for stability and a heat sink......then you could dump into an oversised skimmer and skim it to death...say with a small Euro or ASM......

i still have the 10 gal but the whole sump idea is what got me out in the 1st place because of overflow issues. so that is currently out of the idea. + i sold my remora... i just picked up some lr from lanxang. what a great guy... thanks for the hook up brother... i just threw it into my temp tank so that the lr doesn't die off too much. we'll see how it goes. tomorrow im headed to yourreef to pick up some substrate and will throw everything in then.

Are you planning to use the maxijet to replace the original pump or to add a second pump? If replacing the original pump, I like the Aquaclear 70. Uses the same 20w as the maxijet 1200 but puts out an extra 100gph and produces a lot less heat than the original pump.

maxijet 900 - 8.5w - 230gph
maxijet 1200 - 20w - 290gph

i'm running 3 maxijet 900s in my 24g aquapod. all are in the rear chamber. 1 goes to the stock outlet w/a hydorflow. the other 2 are on a wavetimer. 1 hooked to the black 1/2" tubing with flare nozzles in each corner. 1 hooked to the 2 flare nozzles in the rear.

with all 3 pumps i'm still only at 25.5w compared to the stock 32w pump which had 295gph output.

kmp that's a cool setup. maybe i can bite off your design and try something like that out as well. ;)
btw, does the hydor flow shoot water out when it spins to the top part?

minus the two nozzles in the rear, i saw the hose looping around the top on nano-reef where another member had done that. keeps pumps out of the tank and you can only see the hose at the top if you are looking for it.

you can buy that rear nozzle set-up at your reef for $14.

the hydor flow doesn't shoot the water up. it does create a "wave" if you will but it's not shooting water when it's in the up position.

day 2 after clearing up.

there's a bunch of lr rubble there. its actually dead lr, hoping it will seed off so i can put it in the back refuge area. you can barely see the 2 star fishes on the glass. :eek1:
