Ok, so my new tank is 48Lx24D(front to back)x22high...Pump I am using is a sequence that is rated at 7400gph.. I wil be using an OM 4-way...I will be having a SSB...I am thinking that 7400 is going to be to much flow...should I split the OM by using "Y's" and then double my out put areas, or will that cut down on flow to much? help me out here guys...ask any thing else that might help you or I forgot.

Thats a lot of water flow!! I wiould try your idea and see how it works, Trial and error and patience will bring you good results.

lets talk what are going to keep

10x is a rough min for most any livestock
10-30x roughly for lps depends on what kind as well
30x + for sps

with the flow your talking you may have trouble keeping a ssb where you want it

With an OM you can get away with a MUCH smaller pump, since you won't have constant flow coming out of all your outlets.

what about this...you know the "mood lighting" type light switches that they have? the rotary knob ones? is there any way to purchase a switch like that and put it between the pump's power plug and the power outlet then adjust the flow as needed by varying the power going to that pump?

I really disagree here. I've got 6000gph in a much smaller tank, and have no sandbed issues.

Just break it up to a bunch of outlets, and you wont have a problem.

Good to hear that others have a ton of flow and no problems...Yes I am going to keep mainly SPS, but some LPS and of courese fish....

So I should "Y" the outlets from the OM and make it 8outlets into the tank as opposed to 4?

Well, its got to be only for SPS. You water is going to heat up with a big pump like that, you can "T" off your return to go to a chiller. I would put as many Oceans Motions that you can afford.

I just build my 120 (pretty much the same as your tank) and I got two 1750 GPH (BlueLine 70's) and I "T"ed off two SQWD's and then "T"ed off twice on each output of the SQWD and I got ALOT OF FLOW. (The second pump is not pictured below)

Originally, the SCWD on the left was in my tank, the flow felt like pool jets. So I redid them and the SCWD right is the current return style I am us
