Ok, so who keeps buying the hybrids?

mostly people who are buying into the whole Hybrid craze that has been perpetuated by this forum.

And LA is loving you all for it

I dont understand the mutant craze. To each their own. They dont have to worry about me bidding against them.

LOL, that's pretty conspiracy theory, don't you think? Maybe someone that likes the fish just decided to, well, buy it... :D

I like the colors on these acanthurus hybrids, but they always seem a little washed out to me. Like a paled out unhealthy powder blue. I wish they kept their deep vibrant color too.

I think they just must be stressed in the photos. Maybe they were just added to the photo tank or the flash bothered them. I had a very vibrant acanthurus hybrid, fat, great looking. Then it got in a fight with my tusk. :/ Tusk always wins.

Just an observation.

There are a few members on these boards that have such an infatuation with hybrids.

Other members are reading these threads and thinking how cool it would be to have that one Flame Angel with the messed up black striping or that Mutt Powder Blue or Powder Brown Tang.

Yeah, some of the hybrids are cool, but some of them are not, but get sold quickly because people buy in to the whole notion that this hybrid is one of a kind and "no one else will have it but me".......thus justifying, in many cases, the higher price tag for the hybrid vs. a non-hybrid of the same fish.

I highly suspect that any fish listed in the Divers Den is photographed while not stressed out.

Not always... They can't really spend 100 years everyday to photograph the new fish posted. I've seen washed out powder blues posted, and there was even that one conspic whose photo was bad enough a thread was made questioning it's health. The washed out hybrid looks a bit stressed to me in the photo, but I'm sure it's healthy. It's even showing its stress stripes.

i would love to have a hybrid or a fish with a genetic defect. it makes them unique, something all reefers on some level feel about their fish, whether its looks or personality.

The fish is healthy and people buy hybrids because they are usually one of a kind. These tang hybrids aren't quite one of a kind, but most of the angels are.

Ah once agian the powder blue hybrid goes super fast agian:(
