Found this in the sand bed before, not near any liverock, and have no idea where it came from or what it is. I suppose it's possible it broke off some live rock and got buried for a while and is just now exposed, but maybe it's a coral? Any ideas?

Just looks like some coral skeleton to me. Nothing harmful.

i'm sure it's not harmful, just wondering what it might be the skeleton of. it's blueish, so wondering if it's still living. still no idea how it got there though.

If it's actually blue, then it could be heliopora.

Looks like a chipped-off piece of Marshall Islands rock, is that what you use in your tank?

Yeah, partially Marshall Islands, part Fiji, although any new additions are probably going to be real reef.
