Old Salty Members?

BTW, John, I know the second meeting started at Dalton's, but not sure about the first. I talked to coralreefing and reewik all night, I think (they had pics:)).

Best I can remember:

First meeting was at Cancuns
Second was at Daltons
Third was at that taco place across the street. We had to eat outside and it cold as heck

It was really cold... The 'tarps' didn't do much for blocking the wind either...

Of course that was back in the days when we had to walk 3 miles in the snow uphill both ways to get to meetings and we had to get topup water from the creek.....or the Critter. You whippersnappers don't know how good you have it with home RO/DI units:lol:

Twice a week trips to Wet Pets. Had to walk on my hands through glass shards, then wade through piles of salt. The burning stops after a few minutes, but the pain lasts forever:D.

And remember when we used this forum? I think this is the thread things got started on.

Here's a quote from the thread below. Funny!

"A guy that I know that used to work at "critter" on the reptile side just opened a new place on 70s call "Emerald Bay".

It is great to have all of you old-timers around. There is a lot of history in this hobby, and I know I'd be nowhere if I had to keep reinventing the wheel. Thanks for sharing your experience, and going the extra distance to create the club -- and also to start the swaps.

I joined the MTRC in Mar. 2005. All I'm gonna say is I lost over $100 worth of SW fish before. Just bad mistakes. Everything has been smooth since though. It was Jason from stonesriver aquatics (was only about 8 minutes from my house) who really helped me alot and told me about this board.

Been here for about a year. found one day just looking for frags. just so happened to be close to the frag swap last year. joined on the spot. and to think, I have been reefing in Nashville for 5 years prior and didnt even know this existed.

I missed meeting number 1, but I was there for number 2 (as I remember it, there were 10 of us). Number 3 is just a "Burr", I mean blur.

My MTRC card say's member number 3.

Just ask Fishdoc (or anyone else around at that time)what they think about my early experiences with "Murphy"; after I set up the new tank; Fishdoc once told me (jokingly) "Rick with you're luck, I would not give you my worst specimen, even if my tank was dying" :)

Well due to this club's history (and experience), "Murphy" has moved on; I Hope!

While I have not been active in the last 18 months or so, work situations have changed, and I hope to become a more active member, and I refuse to loose member number 3.

Oh, and Fishdoc, some of those "Worse Specimens" (I seem to have acquired somehow), are still alive. :) YOU ARE MISSED DEEPLY!

Rick

Yeah, thanks Rick... Murphy heard I was moving and moved in for a short stay... My chiller died a few weeks ago (again...), so 85 is becoming a common tank temp when I get home from work... Lost half of my Cephastrea, an entire mini colony (~3-4" around) A. jacqulinea (sp?) -one of Jenn's favorites, and some other unknown acro that had been growing great. RTN'd in a days time... I'm trying to keep more problems at bay. The ACIII is at the Fed Ex hub, so I guess I need to take my happy butt down and get it...

I'm member #5...

You're 5 and I'm 3, some things are just not right. :)

Tell Murphy to take a long walk....somewhere other than here!

Sorry to hear he is visiting you, I hope for the best for you.

Good Luck:
Rick

Once I get the chiller hotwired and get my ACIII, I should be back in business:). I hope it comes tomorrow. The Fed Ex slip mentions that they will try to deliver for three consecutive business days, but on the back it mentions home delivery on Saturday, so I'm hopeful. It makes sense to require a signature with the cost of this thing...
