Old Town Aquarium is open today

I am surprised, but happy. I need to get some things for my tank and I was not expecting to be able to get them today.

I wonder if there are others open today?

I actually stopped in yesterday despite my past negative impression, and decided to give it another shot. I was pleasantly surprised with the help I received. Ended up buying some food and a McCosker Flasher Wrasse (was labeled a red velvet, but I looked it up when I got home and the fin on a flasher is unmistakable). Best thing was it was only $50, that is less than most places online (before shipping!)...couldnt believe I got a cool fish and a good price. My impression is turning around, I'll definitely give it another chance. I also put my name on the wait list for a pair of watanebei or swallow tail angels.

off topic, but have you been to downtown pets, it is right by you i think? I went last week and it looked really picked over, but the girl working (who I think is an owner) was super nice, so I'd love to give them business, but hoping their stock is better at times, and I just came at a bad time...whats your impression of them?

Oh and here are a couple pics:

That's great you had a good experience. I really like those guys. They are very passionate about reef keeping and I always find them very helpful.

I was just there and ran into another RCer who was having trouble with his tank. Things just weren't adding up and, with some water testing, it turns out that he has some toxic metals in the water and they helped him with some removal media and some other corrective measures.

Downtown Pets is within walking distance from my house. You met Mia, she is the owner. She is great. She has been doing this all of her life. Her family has always had pet stores and this is her first on her own. I bought my Solaris from her. She gave me a good price and has helped me out with some nice frags.

Right now, DTP is very picked over, but they are getting ready to stock back up again. She just had a sale and sold everything at 50% off or something like that. The issue she is facing is finding a good distributor that will supply her with good pieces. What she is finding is, because she is a small reef store, she gets the left overs after the larger stores get their pieces. I hooked her up with a supplier and hopefully that will pay off for her.

The great thing about Mia is that she will special order things and give you a very good discount. She was special ordering glass tanks at cost last summer. She is working on finding me a good price on a skimmer and some other products right now.

That is good to know...DTP is definitely the most convenient LFS for me. Old Town is probably equidistant, but the parking is a headache. Maybe I should talk to her about a Watanabei or Swallow Tail pair...

I have been treated nicely at Old Town, was just at Downtown
Pets on Friday and the owner was really helpful.
