Olympus Evolt E-510 vs. Nikon D40

Olympus E510 vs Nikon D40. I am a beginner and this is my first SLR. Anyone with any of these cameras have any input?

I'm new to the DSLR world as well, after months of researching I decided on the 4/3 system and chose the E-510 for it's feature set and overall value/performance. I'm very pleased with it so far.

Either will produce excellent pictures when used properly with quality lenses.

Olympus has a much smaller market share than Canon and Nikon so you won't have quite as many lens options.

I have been a Nikon SLR user for many years. When I recently decided to get a DSLR, I was torn between those and the canon XTI. After a ridiculous amount of research, I chose the Olympus. It was the best deal by far (check out Amazon's price). The Nikons (D40/D40X) were just not as up to date with features, unless you spend big bucks for other models. So far I'm very pleased with it.
