OMG 40 clipperton angelfish, Holocanthus limbaughi,

Can I ask as question without getting hammered?

I looked at a few pics of the Clipperton and I am having a hard time understanding the appeal, atleast to the extent that people would go to a LOT of trouble and expense to get them. Why? Is it because they are taboo that makes them so desirable?

I look around and see so many Angels that are available. When I see this one, I just don't get it....(Being sincere)

beautiful fish if you ask me..

But in comparision to fish that are widely available and can be had for 100 bucks. Like:

Emperors, Queens, Regals, Majestics, Maculosous, Flames, Bluefaces

Assuming that this fish was as common as a Coral Beauty, would you buy it over the fish I listed if it was the same price? I wouldn't, and that's what I don't get I guess.

Of course if you talk pure beauty, no Angel can compare with the Emperor, Blue Face, majestic, regal or Queen.
But the Clipperton is a rare to the trade fish, thats why many people wants them.

i think permit is for scientific study only..not salable anyway....

Yeah, but even if it was for the trade, nobody will go all over there for a permit to collect 2 specimen as it is impossible to cover the expenses even if the fish with fetch a super price.

rarity is what makes some fish most sought after....and there is nothing wrong with that..:)

^ I agree, nothing wrong with that. I'd like to know where they went. It would be nice to see one in person and the Baltimore Aquarium isn't far from me--and the Wash DC Aqrm too.

babies and juvies are quite beautiful...dont love the adult coloration, but still a cool fish...I would pay for a Clarion before a Clipperton...

Hi,

sorry, but we never will see clipp angel on the legal market....
I engaged all the steps with French authorities for a permit : only for scientific way (and just for real scientific project...), specie on the red IUCN list.
unfortunately, we can just dream and look at the pictures...

Olivier.
