OMG!!! Look at this blue mertens!!!

son of buy it for your snowflake pair your tank is really ready for it you are the perfect owner no?

are you going to be able to sleep tonight knowing they will be there tommorow

It would have been really nice for the snowflakes, but after paying for them, the black tang, the blue/purple sebae, and the ornate male leopard wrasse, my reef budget is gone for the month! :)
Actually, the budget has been spent for at least 3 months, but I won't let that stop me after Christmas ;)
It will be hard to sleep tonight knowing I'll have these great fish coming tomorrow. I've waited many years for a small black tang at an affordable price and the day may finally come tomorrow!

thanks for posting!

thanks for posting!

Sonof, you, Cindy and Phil have been very good in posting links of available anemones to help others. Thank you.
I hope the buyers will give us some pictures of the blue mertensii.
I'll give/trade just about any thing that I owned for that blue mertensii:)

Its gone already. How much was it?
It was $350.00! Too steep for me. If it were closer to $200 I might have jumped on it.

May I ask where you got the black tang? I've been looking for one for awhile.

Hi Maximus
My LFS has a direct connection with collectors in Hawaii and Christmas Island. He gets them in every couple of weeks to every month or so.
It has taken a while to find a nice small one that I've been looking for. This one in particular is reportedly 2.5 inches. Most that have come in are closer to 5". He recently got a show size 10" specimen a few months ago. Just awesome, but way to big for my 240.
Did you know that LiveAquaria has two small specimens in their diver's den area? They're pretty steeply priced though.

Thanks. I just checked LA and they are priced a bit steep. The smaller one doesn't look too healthy, imo.

hey guys about the blue mertins. actually a local fish store had 5 of those gems in stock. he was selling them as gigantias though.
he also had one brown mertins at the same time that he wouldnt sell and i got up to 500.00. all of his were purple/blue and all lasted about a week. i think his may of been dyed somehow because the color just didnt seem natural. be it a mertins or a gigantia whoever got it best of luck.

I would reeeeeally like to see a pic of a blue merten's carpet. I'm sorry I was too late to see the one on LA.
December historically seems to be the time you see a lot more colored giganteas than usual. I wonder if a distributor/colllector is simply mis-IDing giganteas.

I just called LiveAquaria and they said that they would email me the pic they had on their website within the next 24 hours. How cool is that!

I saved this pic before it was deleted. Here it is in all its glory :)

Thanks sonofgaladriel.
It is impossible to be 100% certain from that pic, but I would say that it is a gigantea for a couple reasons.

The inside tentacles are in rows. This indicates a less than vibrant gigantea.
Mertens, IME don't form their edges into waves like the picture, even when in a bare tank.
The tentacles are pointy.
The denser tentacles near the edge are more in line with gigantea.
The wholesalers down here (Los Angeles) just got flooded(well not exactly flooded, but there were quite a few) with green, blue and purple giganteas early this week.

For those reason I am saying gigantea and not one in a condition that I would want shipped to me.
