Just checking out my 2nd shipment (absolutely great by the way), and I come across this HUGE scary teethy mouth on a rock. What is it?

Well then, this one has fleshy 'lips'....and he's huge (the hermit in the picture is on part that moves when it closes the mouth).

Ayup, that there is the siphon of an oyster...

The shell is completely encrusted with corals, sponges, and whatnot.

Very weird indeed! I didn't know they had teeth (this one actually appears to have more than one row of them). He has another tube-like appendage that comes out 1/4 of an inch or so right above the teethy siphon.

I have this as well. Actually alot of my rock came with clams and oysters. Most of them are well encrusted with algae and sponges which looks very attractive. However if they die on you.....they can stink up the tank in a hurry. I had to take a knife and remove two dead ones today and the smell they give off is no joke lol!

got one of these in my first half... he's now stage right on the tank... btw, nice crab in the pic (around 2 o'clock)

Hey, that answers the question I was going to ask here, once I figured out how to use my new camera. Got one of those 'scary mouths' on one of the rocks I got in shipment one. It looks exactly like some demented cartoon animators idea of a talking rock.

Now I know.

I got a positive ID from a local MAS member. Seems to be a standard clam (not one of the pretty ones).

Yeah, yours is particularly creepy as it seems like it is completely embedded in a rock. Here's a photo of mine, from my 1st half.

i have the same one as fountainhead, it has yellow lips, and I know what homey means, today, when I went Mantis hunting, I picked up my biggest rock and found a dead clam type thing, it stunk to high Heaven! I'm glad I got it out, but it has been dead under there since shipment 1! so i guess the tank cycled that too ...hopefully...
