On your coral on rocks picture, there are brown things with little arms off of it. What are these? I have them all over my rock that I got from you guys!

Also, what is a gorilla crab and any pics? i have a crab that was about the size of my finger tip a few months ago, but now is the size of a half dollar. It has hair on its legs, and everything else is smooth! I'll try to get a pic of it. Is it a BAD crab?

I would say that if it's legs are hairy and the rest is smooth is might be a Mithrax Crab, similar to a Emerald Crab.

The mithrax are more red/brown in color. The Mithrax looks pretty much like an emerald crab. Take a look at an online webiste. Many people like these crabs in a reef, you will also find that as many people don't like these crabs in a reef.

I would say the the mithrax crabs are pretty much an omnivore... they will eat or try to eat anything... I personally don't like them, but don't think they are too bad, just a little undesireable.

If you are talking about little brown barrel looking things that have little tenticles I would suggest that they are Cladocora sp. corals. They grow in colonies.....

I hope I helped.

Caught the crab!!! Need identity!

Caught the crab!!! Need identity!

Caught the crab and stuck him in another tank by himself for now. Here are some pics if anyone can tell me what kind it is and if he is a "BAD" type! Thanks!

Looks like a mithrax. Good or bad is a judgement call. I personally am removing them from my tank.

Thats cool, thanx! I will probably leave him out since he was a pain to find and catch!

Thats ok! Thanks! So being that I am new with this, what exactly are bad about it and other "BAD" crabs?

I got a red Mithrax in my shipment. I added it to another tank with a green one. it scrapes the rocks clean just like the green one, only it is red. Some love them, some hate them, I would say it is personal opinion. I had a problem with a green one "Emerald" once. It stuck its claw in a maximas' shell, right in a valve to find fome food. The clam closed on the claw and the crab started walking around with the clam attached to it. The clam finally opened up and let go of the claw but the crab did some damage trying to knock it off and the clam never recovered. Otherthen that, all mine do is scrade algae off the rocks. Some have been known to eat zoo's or other small polyps but I have not witnessed this and have kept them for some time.

I caught these crabs (the type in your picture attached) munching some zooanthid. I took all those little farts outta the tank.
