One Anthias with Ich or battle wounds???

I have 5 new female anthias in my tank for two weeks now. One appears to be the most aggressive and bossing all the others around. This one is also going the rounds with my Flame Angel. She/(maybe on her way to be a he) has started getting some wounds or ich or something. Help identifying what it is would be great.

This last photo has an image of another one of the Anthias in it; all of my other fish do not show any signs of anything. And this guy is especially eating well.

Thoughts?

So it’s been a week, and this fish is still eating and trying to boss everyone around in the tank. Physically he is looking worse, he seems healthy weight wise but now it seems like his scales are what is getting messed up. Fish don’t shed do they

Also, there is no other signs of trouble on any of my other fish, although it looks like my large blue Chromis bottom fin has been chewed, I would think that is him fighting with someone.

Can anybody help me out with this???

Well, it could be some battle wounds, but to me it looks more like a bacterial issue.

Maybe someone else can chime in.

I actually treated the Tank with Prazipro because a couple of the new anthias were not eating, and some people thought they may have something. That went fine and everything went okay as far as I know. I was then researching my Cyno outbreak I have been battling for a while so I treated the tank with one dose of erythromycin. That really cleared up My Cyno outbreak. By the way phosphates and nitrates were near zero and I was tired of vacuuming out the Cyno in water changes that’s why I tried the treatment. It seems to have worked great on my Cyno and my skimmer is back to running smoothly. But through out all of this, this fish is looking worse. If it is bacteria I could treat it again with erythromycin?? All my other fish our doing great, my softies look good, Zoas are growing great, My LPS and SPS look good to. In fact some of my sps have never looked better. And at night the tank is swarming with amphipods, they are actually a little creepy to me.

One other thing, it appears this fish likes to swim up next to emerald crabs and almost have them snap at him because he is to close. Maybe he is just trying to be aggressive with them, or maybe he is looking for a scratch. He doesn’t bump along the rocks or anything though.

Sorry such a long post, any thoughts on what I should do?

BTW: thanks for chiming in skibum, I was beginning to think everybody is on fall break.

Personally I dont think prazipro will help but I might be wrong. I recommend u quaritine them and treat with an all-in-one like Paraguard.

Since you don't know what it is you need something that treats bacteria, fungus, infections and viruses. Not sure if paraguard is reefsafe as I used it in a QT and in two weeks a fish I thought would die for sure made a full recovery. Don't wait too long or u might loose a fish or two.

Anyone know if I can use Paraguard in my DT? Here is some updated pictures, this fish is eating great but looking worse. Somebody has had to have seen this before.

Could be that this is simply a secondary bacterial infection that followed some fighting issue. Notice the location of the lesions - the fish's flank and the trailing edges of the unpaired fins - exactly where another fish would bite it.

Don't forget that fighting fish are easy to miss! One hard "tag" in 24 hours can result in a beat up fish in a week's time. Do you watch your tank enough to be certain that you would see a 3 second altercation in a day? Also, if you are just casually watching your fish from a lighted room, they are also wathcing you, and that may inhibit some fighting.

I would blame the flame angel for this. Things may have already settled down, but now you need to deal with this secondary infection....a broad spectrum, gram negative antibiotic in a isolation tank would be best.

Sorry, that isn't Amyloodinium, the fish would not have lived this long, and there was no "rapid breathing" noted by the OP.

Yes, no rapid breathing, and she eats more than any of the other fish. The things on her side are actual her scales, they seem like she has been fighting and they don’t lay down smoothly against her body. Maybe they are just battle wounds and she is healing. I'm assuming if she lives through she will morph into the male in the school because she is definitely taking control of the other anthias. She probably does go the rounds with the flame angel, but not when I’m watching. Either way very active in the tank, she just looks horrible.

Hi rdlisby, have you tried a fresh water dip ? from the description maybe it is flukes ?

That fish needs to be put in QT. For treatment, and to reduce stress.

If you can't get a positive ID, maybe a broad spectrum treatment like Maracyn 2?

You don't want to treat for the wrong ailment, obviously, but from the pics it doesn't look like that fish has a great chance of surviving much longer.

If you don't have a QT, it should be your next purchase.
