This happens when it is submerged too deep, raise it until you only have water flowing in, generally never more than 1/2 the intake should be submerged and not less than 1/4. The less it is submerged the more aggressive the surface skimming action.
Well I don't know I've had this skimmer for three years now and have always got decent skimate. You say the intake draws water inside allowing to surface skim. If I remove the collection cup I have turbulent flow, which with the cup back on, flows outward from the intake. I'm getting lots of bubbles rising from the tube and skimate collection. Unless the turbulence is so strong I'm not seeing this surface skim sucking water inside the intake. I'll just leave things running as is for now unless someone says different.
If you raise it, little to no water will come out the intake, as it is, there is more than enough water coming in so some is able to come back up and out. Just raise it very slowly until you see no more water exiting with the cup on.
Ok i raised it until less water comes out of the intake. I'll run it like this for awhile and see how it performs and order a new impeller in the meant time. Thanks for your help
