Oneradtek202 75 Gallon Reef Build

Pitcher Hill Reef Society
so after a long nights of thought and lots of cash i have finally worked out my 75 gallon build. I bought a used 75 gallon tank, that was brown and re did the stand and tank to be black. Also took and had a custom canopy made for it. I had a 55 gallon reeft for a year that i had to transfer into this new tank. So the move began yesterday with 7, 5 gallon buckets or established water. that part went smoothely and then the big move came today with the transfer of livestock all day. I took and drained my tank into each 5 gallon bucket and placed all corals and fish in the buckets/containers. Moved as quickly as i could to the new apartment with the stock. this process took all day, but its now up and running. havent lost anything that i know of yet. Although my pistol shrimp is un accounted for but i could be that lucky to have lost him in the move haha. heres some pictures of the move and new tank set up.

This will now be my new blog/diary for this tank, hope you all enjoy!

so basically my whole left side is what i brought from my 55 gallon, only part of my corals are sitting on the right side. I am planning on making that side like the left eventually, but maybe a little taller with rock going out of the water on that side

I would get rid of the HOB filters................

and your canopy is a lil disportioned to the rest of the tank..........maybe cut it down a lil................

but nice livestock

did you read the previous post? i am picking up my overflow and sump tomorrow. The reason the canopy is soo high is because i have had some issues with my light being too strong and i wanted to be able to adjust it up high off my tank. i have it 12 inches off my water right now

2x175 halides and 2x96 actinics

looks great, and I hope you like the green star polyps! I like them personally, but find them terribly challenging to control. If you can separate the rock they're on from the rest of the rocks, you'd be doing yourself a favor. But otherwise, keep it up!

yea i had them for about a year now, they did grow at first very quickly but now has slowed down. I was worried when i first got them because they were brown, and i love how they turned out. GSP IMO are great to watch and add to the aesthetics to a tank. heres a pic of what they DID look like haha...

sump is done, and hooking up hard plumbing tomorrow. I picked up a few new frags today at a frag swap. Purple millipora, green ora birdsnest, blue acropora, green monticap.

heres a pic of the tank with actinics on and you all can kind of see the new aquascape taking shape. Frags are all still sitting in sand though in the middle. I need more frag mounting clay!

UPDATE!

hey everyone, been busy getting this new tank up and going, but heres an update. I attended a coral swap on labor day ( i have no life) and got myself a few new nice corals as i mentioned above. They have all made the transaction good. I just got in today, my replacement bulbs( MH and actinics) and what a difference! i have never seen the difference that new bulbs make on a reef tank but wow my color is way better now! especially with the actinics on. I am still dealing with a nitrate issue but im doing water changes every other day with water from my new ro/di unit. I also have ordered and is on its way, a aqua medic t-1000 recirculating skimmer for my sump setup which will be up and going this week! other than that, the tank has been doing great, and looks better than ever! here are some updated pics. ENJOY! and feel free to comment/ask questions.

PS, my right side of the tank is currently still under construction as you all can tell! it also needs time to mature like the left side has.

last night after a long trip back from MD, i setup my new retro MH kit. They look awesome! the color is just amazing! I currently only have them on for 4 hours because its an upgrade from my original 350watt MH odyssea POS. I will be looking for a 48" actinic strip for simulation of morning/evening. Heres some recent photos. The wiring still isnt 100% done , but its working and on!

I really like your rock work. I did the same thing with my canopy. It is a little on the tall side but that way I can get the light out of the way when I am working on the tank. I really like your tank. I get so tired of seeing the same old SPS tree farm. Good job.

Very nice. I am working on a 75g myself. I was going to build a stand and stain it, but seeing your's in black has changed my mind. Very sleek looking.

yea i think my top is about 24 inches or so. a little bit bigger than my stand, the picture doesnt show the full height of the stand. But yea i like the mixed reef look. glad i got soo many posts! i thought no one would ever post haha
