i just got a little siganus unimaculatus (sp) and was wondering what other fishkeepers think of them? favorite foods? funny habits? etc.. just looking to see what i can do to help the little guy have a good life in my tank. i have a nice "lawn" of green algae that he likes to chew on. he doesnt like osi flakes (yet?) but seems to like ocean nutrition reef flakes so far. he hasnt found any nls pellets because everytime i add them to the tank he takes off and hides. he seems especially shy. he is only about 3" long.

Foxfaces ... imo are 99% super skittish until it's feeding time .. which they'll basically become triggers with smaller mouths.

i have read reports of them being skittish. so i shouldnt be worried that he darts to the rocks if i get close to the tank?

I really like mine. He's been great with all tank mates except for a rabbit I just removed. Not because of the fox, but other reasons. The fox eats everything, is a little shy but not so much anymore, and it's a great grazer, eats bubble algae and lots of other nasties.

i will second that, they are very skittish, mine darts to the rocks also! If i feed them though he comes out and wants food so bad he ignores me for the time being

I have a foxface and it might be my favorite fish. Was extremely skittish first couple of months whenever I got close to tank for anything, but now I can hold a piece of nori in my fingers and he'll basically eat right out of my hand. Great fish.

MY FAVORITE FISH!!! Yes very skiddish at first but eventually he would eat nori right outta my hand (scary at first:) ). Mine would spit water at me when being fed mysis :( . Sadly he passed away 2 weeks ago natural causes :(

I really like my 6" foxface. He was never skittish, and swims out in the open all the time. Completely eradicated the hair algae I had in my display, and has never touched any of my corals, including zoas, softies, and LPS. Happily eats the small nori sheet I put in for him every two days or so, as well as anything else I feed the tank, including flake, pellets, and frozen mysis, etc.

thanks everyone. i really like mine too, just wish it wasnt so scared. hopefully he gets over it and realizes i am his feeder and i am really not trying to kill him.

They are skittish fish and are easily spooked. I think their tendencies to spooking are lessened if they are in a bigger tank. I kept on in my 60 but I later on decided it was too small of a tank for the foxface so I moved it out.

Very very skittish, but he will also swim up to the glass if I come over to look or feed. When I am working on the tank I swear he's going to have a heartattack. Mine doesn't touch the rocks or glass. a 2x2 sheet of nori last about 10 seconds though he will swim to the algae clip and hang out when he's hungry. Also loves Rod's food. When I put food in the tank, I think I could reach in and pick him up he is so obsessed with it.

i got a one spot foxface just over 2 months ago. For the first week and a half it would dart behind the rockwork everytime i came near the tank, and then swim around normally when i wasnt there (or hidden).
Eventually it began to come out of hiding sooner and sooner as it slowly become more comfortable and now it only darts for cover if it doesnt notice me apporach the tank and i startle it.
Its really quite entertaining, because it will swim around and then notice me and its eyes get this wild look and it darts behind the rocks, and then slowly creeps out, staring me down, and then once its satisfied im not a threat it continues to swim around.

Feed him MANY small meals. always approach the tank in the same manner, and eventually he'll get the idea that you = feeder.
