Hello-
I am selling a pair of onyx percula clown fish. The female is about 1.75 inches
and the male is slightly smaller. I paid $125.00 a couple of years ago, I am
selling for the same $125. Will be available on Tuesday. Local pickup in
West Hollywood only. Thanks Dennis

I though onyx clowns were completly black and white with the babies having orange faces which later becomes black.

The clowns u are describing are black variant ocellaris clowns.

Those clowns are considered Onyx. The black between the white bars must be connected and some say the dorsal fin has to be black also.

Ron Ive seen True Percs with more black than those above.

Look like True Percs to me.I have some Soloman Island caught percs they look identical.

Onyx Percs are compleley different to those pictured above out of the ones Ive seen.

Could be they still need to color up more? But they are over a year old. I could be wrong...

anyway..

Dennis are these percs mating? If so Im definatley interested.

Thanks

Sam

Alice-
It is in fact the same pic from nano-reefs....I bought the pair from
Kevin.... however the pair I have is almost exactly the same, thus
I used his pic. Also they were sold to me as an onyx pair. The reason
I am selling is I purchased Kevin's for a friend, who has now decided
he does not want the pair - instead of "flake-ing", I will keep Kevin's
and sell mine. HTH Dennis

If anyone is interested in purchasing and wants a pic of the clowns from
my tank, I will be happy to provide one. However, I will be unavailable
until Tuesday. Thanks Dennis

Hello-

Here's a pic of a small onyx clown from "rod's-reef". What is the difference
between his and mine, which I purchased as an onyx pair. Thanks
Dennis

Between the white bands. Yours have orange still.

Rods when fully adult (some) are suppose to have black between the white bands, barely if at all any orange.

True Percs have more the thicker black lines, they have splotches somewhat like your IME.

Not all clowns get to fully color in, especially tank bred specimens.

The pic of Rods' Onyx is still a juvenile and it's bars don't fully develop til I think they are around 18 months old. I know rod was selling them for $70 a piece when they have fully developed their bars, but when he sells u a misbar like the one pictured it is less. U take a chance buying them like that since there is a chance it will never fully develop its bars. Either way both are true percs. "Onyx" just refers to the barring on the clownfish, just like "picasso" or "jigsaw" true perc.

U beat me to it Sam. If u haven't already purchased the pair Dennis, I would back out of the sale. $125 is too much for a pair like the one u have pictured, and at the most u will get maybe $75 if u are lucky.

Its the black between the white bands my man. Rods Juvies are $50 a piece last I checked.

Ocellaris and Percs eyes are different check them out.

Occ have orange rings Percs are solid dark color all around.

This stuff can be tricky when catergorizing a clown.

Thanks guys.... I appreciate the input.....I'll know better the third time
around. I really hate to back out of a deal, because of my ignorance.

What would u call the pair pictured at the top of the thread (Kevin's) and
what would be a fair price for the pair?? I am guessing $50 - $75.

Lastly, would it be advisable to put Kevin's pair in the same tank as
my pair, or would that be asking for trouble.

Thanks Dennis

The pair at the top would be considered an "Onyx" true perc pair. Do u know how long the person has had the pair? I think $50 would be a fair price, since the female has alot of growing to do.

50 is a really good price for onyx clowns, considering they sell black and white ocellaris for 50 each.

i hope i didnt start any trouble. i have been looking for a nice pair for a while. i would like them to look like the second picture you posted. the smaller picture in the lower left hand side.

Alice-
No trouble at all.... I did act inappropriately by posting Kevin's
pic. Sorry you can see the paired pic does not look like the
Reef-Rod pic. Dennis
