Onyx?

What identifies a clown fish as an onyx? I know they get very black but my pair of true percs are very black and many look at them and say Onyx.
Here are my percs. The reason I'm wondering at this point is that I'm looking for a pair of Onyx and there's a question about a pair that I may buy.
Here are my percs,

the larger female has onyx traits, but the lower male smaller one is a true percula .. it's considered an onyx if all body is black front and back, but if your not breeding them who cares you can call it an onyx if you want, only time you want to make sure they are onyx is if your trying to breed them and raise true onyx fry.... thanks...

Among breeders, I would expect your male would be considered a true perc. Your female could be considered Onyx, but the black coloration isn't as deep as most consider to be a true "onyx" clown. The general concept is for the front dorsal to be black, black extending from top to bottom between the 1st and 2nd as well as the 2nd and 3rd bars. Here's an example of my onyx clowns from Booyah's Reef:

Both 3rd bars aren't quite in yet, and the male is still getting darker. Also, the edges of the black regions are usually crisp and not too muddy.

In any case, you should like the fish that you have. If you do, then all this naming stuff doesn't really matter a whole lot. However, a clownfish that is Onyx will command a higher price than a true perc - hence why some choose to be sticklers when it comes to naming. Some try to call a true perc and "onyx" to try to get a higher price, but it seems like most just call it onyx without knowing proper definitions.

What C-Quest considers an onyx is the black coloration showing after meta.Talked with them today about that, and thats what they said.Bill was the one to create the name onyx and use the term for clownfish.

They did that a few times once on the inside of it's shell.
I'm totally happy with my percs, just wanted to know what makes an onyx an onyx.
