Ooops I did it again

Aaarrgh! Second time this happens - I tried to move the male Bangaii too early and he released the premature babies. I'm going to have to put them on "intensive care" :(

Picture of other eggs. It's fun to see they "pop", something you can't see when they are in the parent's mouth :D

Have you tried waiting until the male releases the fry?
My male did that ( the pair is still in the reef tank, along with 2 other bangaii, and 7 other fish ), dropping 8 fry into the tank.
Four went to the pulsing xenia corner and hid, and the other four were hiding under a dead coral in the other corner of the tank.
I managed to get 4 into a holding tank, but none survived.
I need to set up a tank for the pair, but haven't gotten around to it yet, and the male is holding again.
What do you feed them as they grow?
Hope all goes well.

Armando,

These are great photo's.

Couple of questions if you do not mind.

1) When did you try to move him, which day?
2) How did you try to move him?

Good luck and let us know how is goes.

Wow- great photos....
no need to worry, you don't need a males mouth for any of this, a few hobbyists actually strip the males of eggs and raise the fry in "bubblers". Just ensure the eggs are well bathed in new water w/ plenty of O2 and your all set, now you'll also have to ensure you have baby brine shrimp (enriched w/ selcon or phyto ready to go. By the look of the fry your around days 8-12

Frank,

Thank you for chiming in. The male stopped eating on January 9. So yesterday they should have been 20 days old. Is it possible that the male dropped the eggs and received new ones during since January 9?

they did pretty well. I was able to hatch 6 out of 9 eggs. The male is still holding some eggs, one fry was released today so now I have 7. Hopefully I'll have close to 10 at the end.

Armando,
Do you keep them in a separate tank? If so how big?
It looks bare bottom, correct.
How do you filter the water, to ensure you don't suck up
the babies?
I ask, because I bought 4 bangaii, and two paired up, and
started dropping fry (8). Then the other two also paired up,
and they droppped fry (4).
They are still in the reef tank, as that is all I have setup.
None of the fry have made it, so I need to setup something to help out. I am looking for suggestions and experiences.
Thanks for all the help.
Steve

Steve,

You really need a separate tank to raise the fry with good water quality and low flow. In the beginning when they are tiny a 20G would be OK but after a while you should put them in a bigger tank.

How do you filter the water, thru an overflow box, or siphon?
I am trying to setup in a safe manner for the fry, and no one I
have talked to around here raises fish from fry.
Thanks
Steve
