Good thing for the $1 per gallon sale! Was almost through and I should have not let off the speed. Was also using a drill guide attachment which I've decided is not for me. I feel like a hand drill and template jig to start off with is so much easier and better. You can actually feel your way through the cut vs. the drill guide has no feeling and you just have to go slow and hope you end up with a nice hole. After the crack I decided to do an extra test run on the other cutter. I'm thinking I'll just tear the panels apart and cut them into glass tops for the finished build and maybe a cut a few pieces out of the broken panel to place on top the of soil in my grindal worm containers.

It happens:) D Smack cracked 4-5 tanks before his 8 year old son showed him how to do it right:bounce2::lolspin:

BRS sells a cheap red guide that helps keep the drill from chipping the glass around the hole. The bit I got from BRS lasted about 8 holes before I noticed chipping when cutting 1/4 inch thick glass.

That was awesome! We also found out that beer makes good coolant for the hole saw... just saying

I drilled a fluval tank. It was a 43ish cube and my first reef tank. I held my breath the entire time. I don't even want to try anything over 100g's, with my luck I would drill the only tempered pane and watch all that money explode in front of my eyes.

It happens. The bigger/more expensive, the higher the stress level may be, but honestly, I've never broken anything large... knock on wood. Thick glass seems more forgiving to me than thin stuff. Broken many a 10-29g tank, never anything larger.

This is one time when acrylic tank owners have a major advantage :) Chuck up a wood hole saw, no big deal. Drilled my eshopps sump for a 1" bulkhead... cake. I guess they've got a bit of an edge when it comes time to move that big, honkin' glass box, too. Oh well, I'll stick with glass :)
