OPE or RPE?

<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=7755981#post7755981 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by Jayreefer
We boht started calling them OPE's after we looked them up on zoaid. He was not trying to make a profit just a trade for a little diffrent color.

Thanks for the info. I will make sure to let people know as I trade with them that they are both RPE's.

I always tell people the colors of the zoo's because so many people are always trying to pass zoo's of as something they are not.

couldnt agree more ;) i always post a WYSIWYG. if a name is that important to them, they can look it up. but you just have to be aware that ZoaID isnt like full proof encyclopedia. there are several errors on there of repeat zoas under different lighting, with different names. (for instance armor of god and goochsters).

just have to use good judgement.

but trying to make $250 off of something the person only paid 1/8 for, is absolutely ridiculous. no question that the person is trying to make a profit by slapping a name on them.

Here is what I call OPE they have been under vho's for 2 years and I placed them under MH around 7-8 weeks ago and they have colored up nice. This pic is a few weeks old the colony has started to get the green mouth with in the past week or so.I hope it will color more.

Agreed on the errors, but not with those examples. Several of the orange skirt ones on ZoaID may be the same though.

AoG and Goochsters are different. AoG doesn't have the dark center around the mouth. Some people say Goochsters have slight green in the skirt. Haven't seen them in person, so hard for me to tell. AoG doesn't have green at all though. On ZoaID, Jimmy's and Gooch's pics are or the original zoa. The newest pic in that category doesn't look the same. There were some that showed up this year that look like those. People have been confusing them with AoG too.

AoG at Coral Oasis, Ultimate Frags, and New Alameda are original and came from the same zoa. You can see representative pics under their different lightings to compare.

Envy Orange PPE

Envy Orange PPE

Hey guys,

Here is a picture of the 'Envy Orange' PPE's They are like the paly twin of the bam bams. But unlike the bam bams, they grow at the speed of frozen molases. Not only in my tanks, but in the tanks of those that got polyps from Reefenvy.

The Red PPE's (RPE's) are fairly variable depending on the lighting and tank conditions.. I will say I have had diffrent types of RPE's some have more purple, some have more metalic red, some are more on the brown side, and some may even look orangy.

Jay, indeed those are RPE's and one of the necer morphs I might add! Nice find!! You see lots of the brownish RPE's in the shops but those are the nicer ones.

surfnvb7, I agree with you, RPE'sin very bright light will bleach out some and look orangy.

**This is the first time I have said this, there IS in a fact a type of OPE But we call it 'Envy Rainbow' PPE. We have had it for a couple years now, Way before any craze, but are not releasing any yet. Like the 'Envy Oranges' they are so very slow growing :( Seems like all the nice stuff is like this!! O_O

Not posting any pics at the moment sorry... perhaps in the near future.

You say Orange envy does not have a purplish disk at the mouth... If you look close there is a purplish disk in his pics also look at the edges they are stripes... Fact of the matter is most RPE come in different shades of red or purple or Maroon and now you are saying orange!! .... Bottom line is there are OPE that you calling RPE. I have seen Bam Bam orange polyps that have different shades of orange and some are more Reddish tint than others. True colors change with lighting conditions and remember things can morph... OPE are different than Orange Envy. Looking at them they are just much brighter and less defined at the purplish disk and stripes. So it seems you confuse the two.... I am not here to start a new fade or profit from any form for orange polyps. He has every right to ask the price he wants for them and if someone like them enough to pay it they will.

Fact... most people refer to Zoaid.com just as you do,and it is there !

Peace OUT!!!

So the trade was done. I took my RPE polyp to my favrite LFS and we put it in the tank next to his colony that we were refering to as OPE's.

The LFS is running 2x 150 hqi coralife 20k (very white for 20k) and I am running a 400w SE 14k geisman(sp) on a PFO HQI ballast. (Polyps shown in first pic.)

The LFS colony looks just like the OPE's identified on ZOAID. When the polyp I took in opened up it looked the exact same as his and completely diffrent from the pictured colony I first possted. I still traded polyps and the LFS polyp looks like my colony under the 14k.

Conclusion- The OPE's on ZOAID are in fact RPE's but they are under lower K bulb or a yellowish bulb. The two diffrent colonies are the same morph just under diffrent lighting.

Hey guys :)

Pazazz, Actually the Envy Oranges Do not have the purple... that macro show was taken under 20k what you see is the reflection of the light on the polyp... It dosent have purple spoked either, alklof these PE palys have two sets of tentacles on the skirt, one bright one and one dull one, this goes for PPE's Envy oranges, and RPE's etc etc. If you see the picture of the RPE's Jay posted, the top polyps that you vcan see sideways you'll see the browner tentacles staked above the colorfull ones... truth is you don't notice this unless you look closely. IN the envy's the browner tentacles seem to reflect the 20k more hence the hue.

Here is a picture of my colony under 10k's you can see no purple.

Sorry about marking them up with the name, but I don't want the pics to be used for anything with out my consent (Ex. fake ebay auction etc.)

Juan-Carlos

Thanks for the clearer pic.

They are very beautiful palys/zoas... I still belive that OPE are DIFFERENT than Orange Envys... Do you have any background on your colony? Did you know where in the vast oceans your colony came from? How long have you had them? Thanks for sharing... If you dont mind,

Pazazz
