Hello Let me introduce myself I am openapeture. I live in Anchorage Alaska. I have been wanting to do a A reef tank for about a year now and recently i ran across a great deal or at least to me. I have been doing some research for about a year reading books and form and watching countless videos. a lot of which left me with more questions than answers. I am here to log the progress of my tank. and to give the story and to find advice as my tank matures. My ultimate goal for this my tank is a for it to look like an acid trip with bright psychedelic colors. with time patience and of course money. I am sure I can have that.
So lets Start of with the Story of my tank I went with the Biocube HQI because it seamed to have every thing that I need to start a healthy reef . Plus I am limited on how big of an aquarium in can have in apartment building.(20 gallons max) after a couple of months but I didn't like the price tag about $700 plus thats with the stand here in Anchorage but I went to my LFS they had a used one with the stand for $500 which I thought was a sweet deal. got it home and discover that the Tank was scratched to be all Heck. :( thats what I get for buying used it didn't look that bad when in the store but no proper lighting hid most of them plus a well placed price tag. Well crap Now I have to sand out all these scratches so I went back to my LFS and Asked if the had anything to remove scratches with like polishing compound or something the owner asked me why was the tank I purchased scratched I replied yes next thing I knew he handed me a brand new one still in the box and told me to bring back the old one. :celeb3: so for a grand total of &600 dollars I got new tank used stand bag of livesand, 18 lbs of dry rock and a bag of Instant Ocean salt mix pretty sweet deal for me.well any how that the story of how and why I got my aquarium. I know its a bit long winded but felt like it was part of the tank.

After getting my tank home I set it up with what I have purchased and decided i need more rock so back to the LFS to get 12 more Lbs of live rock to start the cycling process. I purchased a small circulation pump its a SEIO PROP 320. Filled the tank with water took 19 gallons.(sweet I am under my 20 gallon limit:dance)
added salt by mixing the salt in a bucket of water from the tank to make a slurry and added the slurry mix to the tank. I did use tap water the LFS said that is what he uses in most of his tanks except for his big display tank. so i went with it. after 2 days the water cleared.
