opinion on big pump...

well now that i've got my main tank (75), fragtank (30 breeder), and an anemone tank (18 gallon) I'm looking at using one pump. I figured about 1,000gph for the main tank. 600 gph for the fragtank. 600 gph for the 18 gallon tank. and then another 200 gph for the skimmer. I'm thinking the sequence dart will be big enough to use. anyone have one lying around or should I just order a new one? also...do you think that'll be enough pump for what I want to do?

what about the marlin...less gph but it's pressure rated. don't really understand what that means, but someone offered me a great deal on it.

Less gph and more than twice the wattage. The elec bill savings from the dart would probably make up for the "great deal" on the marlin in no time.

so it'd be better for me to get the dart? I just don't know what would be better between 3,000 going through a 1.5in pipe or 2,000 going through a 3/4in pipe. i'm assuming bigger pipe is always better...but I don't know anymore!

I'll be making a manifold of T's with ball/gate valves right above the pump if that makes any diffarence in pumps. I just wanna buy the best one. If theres any other "better" options, I'm open to suggestions.

I would get a snapper or dart pump. It will do anything you need. Also 1000gph sounds nice but your drains will not handle that and your sump would be like a jacuzzi. I guess after the plumbing and the head it will be about 400-600 which would be okay.

no...i was going to run the return over the back and make both bulkheads in the overflow drains. maybe thats a bad idea...who knows! too much thinking!

Others have done what you are thinking about doing with the overflow. Not sure how Matt knows your drain won't handle 1000. Maybe he has seen it? My 65 gal RR came with an overflow rated for 1200. My 150 - God only knows what it could handle since I cut the weirs myself.

Another good reason to choose the dart is that IF you find that it is too much flow then you can choke it back without harm to the pump and it will consume less energy being run that way as well.

I also made outlets off the main pipe. I still have two that are just sitting there closed off.

You may want to rethink about having 2200 gph flowing thru your sump as this will be microbubble heaven :)

Would you have any other circulation besides this inside your tank (powerheads, wavebox) ?
