Opinions on SEIO pumps please!

To all who have or have used SEIO pumps, what is your take on them?
I recently purchased a 140g, and I'm thinking of putting 2 SEIO M1500s, and one closed loop with a Panworld 50PXX.

I am considering Tunzes, but at a little more than double the price for comparable ones, it's a tough choice.

Please let me know!

seios seem to be hit and miss. they are known to have restart problems, but for some people they work just fine with no problems at all.

But overall, I think they're a good value for the money. If money is no object, then by all means get the Tunzes, but if you're looking for good value, then give the seios a shot....

I bought mine knowing it may have problems restarting. I rarely turn off my pumps (mostly to take pictures) so I was not too concerned about it. I have had my M820 for a few weeks now and I am happy.

I have used a Seio along with a few other powerheads, but I took it off due to the fact that I now use a wavemaker and 4 maxijets. I am thinking about getting a pair of the new mini tunze streams when they come out, or maybe getting a maxi-stream mod, but for now the MJ's work...

I have only had it lock up and not restart once when I used it (pre-wavemaker), but it started once I smacked it.

Had three SEIO's plus other PH's, then purchased two Tunze's.

Once you go Tunze, you'll never go back.

FOr some of us, going tunze isnt an option. I can't spend $700 on 2 powerheads.

There was a poll a while back. It was only like 10% of people who had problems with SEIOs. The problem is, these 10% are very outspoken (whereas the people who have problems with their tunzes seem to just dissapear), and a ton of people who have no experience with these things like to parrot what they've heard.

I've got 2 820s, and a 620. Never had a single problem with any of them. They get stopped 5 or 6 times a day.

I have 3 tunze 6100's a seo 1500 and 2600. I recently got 2 modified maxi jet1200's. (from stacker) To be honest I like the modified maxijets better than the seo's they are smaller and push a lot of water. They will not work well on a wavemaker though you should run them 24/7 (just like the seo's I guess). Of course the tunze are the best and controllable.

You can get the Tunze 6060's for $137 which would add up to slightly less that $700 for two.

First let me say that I am currently running 3 SEIO's in my 75gal right now. I didn't understand why I needed to spend the extra on Tunzes and defended them on this sight. I have a 620 that has been flawless for over a year, an 820 that started seizing after 5 months in the tank(gets cleaned monthly) and an 1100 that seized and broke the shaft after 2 months in the tank. Tunze replacements are in route now. I honestly can't tell you how good or bad the Tunze's are but I can tell you that it's time to give another brand a try. Not trying to sway anyone one way or another and not parroting anything just giving my first hand experience so others can make their own decision. I'm glad you haven't encountered the same problems and hope they continue to work well for you.

Seio's are problematic

Seio's are problematic

I have used Seio's and now use Tunze's.....And after Using both my belief is that probably close to noone has problems with Tunze's, They are basically an encased propellor and they are a fantastic product..I was in the I am never gonna spend that money on a powerhead camp, and the Seio's drove me to change my mind I am glad i did.......As for Seio's One of my 1500's sits in a garage cabinet, and the other one I use to mix my Saltwater for water changes........For me The seio's would stop running frequently, and stopping and retarting was an annoying hit or miss proposition.......In this hobby you get what you pay for, Seio's will move a lot of water, but they'll drive you nuts....If you can't afford Tunze I'd do a close loop over Seio

both my sios quit after one week and one of them ended up breaking the gfi it was on ( gfi wont reset now even with no load)

Ive got 2 820's and a 1500 Seio with no problems yet in about a year. They get stopped about twice a week and always restart

I had one seio 1100 crap out on me after about two weeks.

I really love my 2 Tunzes though and would go all Tunzes, but I live on a budget ( I will be trying some of the nano streams when they come out!)

The Seio 1500 is around 70.00, The Tunze 6060 is around 137.00.

I have not used a Tunze, yet, but I have used 3 Seio's, one burned up and another was close to it. I thought it best to take the other one off line. The problem I found with the Seio's is they don't hold up well to tanks using Ca reactors and dripping kalk (I use a kalk reactor) The ceramic shafts and guides pretty much fuze together.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the Seio's are a totally different pump then the Rio's. They don't pollute the tank when they burn up, at least mine didn't...They just kind of melt inside.

I try and stay away from all pumps that have ceramic on ceramic because they all tend to fuze together and will not restart once the power was cut (Ca reactor and kalk). The Seio's were different. They would just stop without the power being cut, get hot and start to melt. I've had other pumps lock up but they wouldn't burn up or get hot like the Seio.

I've never really checked out a Tunze, it could be just as bad (ceramic on ceramic)

If you are going to get a Tunze, make sure you get a controllable one so you can add on in the future.

I like my Seio's. I have 2 820s and will probably be buying a 1500 here soon.

I love my SEIO's, I have a 1100, 1500 and a 820. I've never had any problems with them. Good flow for the money, if I had money to burn then I'd get Tunze but I don't.

I use both the SEIO 1500 and the 820.
My 1500 has been flawless for about 8 months now.

My 820 has experienced restart problems, so now I run it 24/7.

Honestly, I'm on the fence about them right now. They are both working fine, as long as I don't shut down the 820.

my 1100 is a little finicky sometimes on the restart. Usually I just have to plug it back in and it kicks in. I haven't had that problem with either the 820 or 1500. No big deal to me.
