opinions on t5 lighting

I am thinking about converting my 30 gal fuge, into a fuge and frag tank...

T5 lighting would fit inside the cabinet.

I currently use a costco floodlight....

How much more heat does the T5 generate?

General cost for a 24 inch system?

Will sps frags live under it?

A MH is out of the question because of heat issues.....

Hey franky iam running a 6bulb t5 set up right now in my tank for the summer. So far iam realy impressed with them. I have not lost any color at all and theyre is a more unified lighting then MH. For a fudge I would run just 2 bulb set up. You can get a 24" set up from reefgeek for 139. If you want to keep sps you might want to look into the 4-6 bulb set up. Right now iam getting about 200par at the sand bed running 2 aquablue and 4 blue+ set up. Might try a 3:3 bulb ratio and see what happens.

almost noheat at all. Chiller only runs 2-3 times a day. temp stays at about 78-78.5 almost all day.

I running 4-54 watt T5 on a 48 inch 55 gal. 2 computer fans keep the tank at 80. My sps are growing great. You could probably do well with a 4 bulb setup if you keep the sps higher in the tank. I use 2 aquablue +, 1 ge6500 and one 420 actinic. Nice crisp blue/white color.

Sooo cool... Of course I would keep the frags high. I have some eggcrate that will fit in perfectly.

I can make some brackets out of acrylic so I can drop the egg crate into the fuge.

I will push the caulerpa and chaeto down a bit, and trim what grows through the eggcrate.

The eggcrate tray will fit in, and I wont burn my hands sticking them in there

I have a hagen 800 pwhd pushing water in, and a mj 1200 for flow.

I am soooo tired of fragging for big events, and dumping frags on the bottom of the tank when I get home....

I just remembered that I have a dual VHO 6 foot long system, I could cut it down to 24 inches, would sps frags grow under that?

T5 is better.. i would not use vho's for sps tanks...

dont mean to change the subject...but has anybody used the adjustable cables for hanging a tek fixture?? im getting the 6 bulb set up and want to be able to raise and lower the lights to the needs of my corals...

i use the sun lifts.. they are great if you have enough space to use them...
