Opinions on underrated fish...

I second the Vroliks wrasse (very similar to melanarus but more vibrant)
Most firefish,
Yellow Coris wrasse (not a coris but lots of personality)
Pacific blue tang
Bicolor goatfish

Ah, Yes. For me I would say C. truncatus. Another perfect example of a not rare but underrated fish.

Got one in quarantine from DD. Tiny little girl but she's really awesome. Can't wait to grow her up into a beautiful adult Truncatus.

You nailed a bunch of the ones that came to mind for me lol

Maori wrasses in general are underappreciated IMO. There are only a few that would really fit your bill though, given the tank in your signature. Twospot maori wrasse, Oxycheilinus bimaculatus, would probably be best.

Stole my thunder. Cheilinus & Oxycheilinus are way under appreciated. Not really invert safe but coral safe. Snooty maori wrasse, Cheilinus oxycephalus, would be a good option too.

Any of the small basslets are underrated too. Blackcap is probably my favorite there. Such a pretty fish, don't see too many around though.
