Opinions on UV filter

IMO, UV isn't really needed. It can improve your water yes, but with upkeep water change and a protein skimmer, that'll take care of all that stuff. UV can take out the good stuff and the bad stuff. :)

I ran a UV for about a year, I did notice a slight increase in clarity upon addition of the UV due to a lightening of ceartain corals. It was not noticeable to the naked eye. I took it off a couple of months ago mainly to reduce the heat it puts into the tank. I haven't noticed a difference since removing it. It was an Aqua 25 watt run on ~ 90 gallons system volume FWIW. I may play around with adding it back and not running carbon just to experiment someday. I do like the fact that it disassociates organic molecules but with a big protien skimmer I'm not sure if it's really needed.
