the valve is to raise or lower your water level inside the skimmer so you don't have to have the skimmer on a riser. at least thats what i have understood? did you buy the kit or make one? it seems a little goofy to pay 33 bucks for a kit that looks to be about $5 in parts

You can tweak the levels much more finely with a gate valve than with a riser tube. Both methods work, just the gate valve allows for finer tuning.

A good gate valve isn't cheap either. I want to say mine was $10-12 for the size I used on my ASM. It does allow me to tune it just the way I want it though. It has tight threads on it and takes a lot of turns to open/close, so the adjustments made can be very small and precise.

Thats between you and Allen. I'm the broke one now :lol: But I have a great skimmer to show for it. Allen did such a great job of cleaning it up I had a 15 hour break in period. Thanks again for the killer deal on the skimmer Allen it was truly appreciated.
