Options for treating velvet

My female Picasso clown has come down with a case of velvet. Wondering what my options are for treating it. This is where it gets interesting, I'm completely snowed in. We just got over 2ft of snow last night and I can't get out of my driveway and even if I did I don't think anything is open. I read somewhere that raising the temp will help so it is currently at 82 degrees, or was that for ich? I also read that a fresh water dip will help but don't want to stress her out further for nothing. She is currently acting and eating just fine but I want to do something before I end losing her. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

about 3 weeks of cupramine and formalin dips...

any other fish in the tank? any newly introduced fish?

If you are positive its velvet a 5 minute freshwater bath may offer some relief. Raising the temp does nothing but reducing disolved oxygen and speeds up the fishes metabolism. Copper treatment is needed. If its brook then formalin baths. How did velvet end up in your tank anyways?

Chemicals aren't an option right now. I don't have them on hand and don't know when I'll be ale to get them. I just spent 2hrs digging out the plow truck that was supposed to plow my driveway. He gave up before he got stuck again.

I think it's velvet, it's a white film just above her head to her dorsal fin. I don't know of anything else that looks like that. She is in the tank with a male Picasso (completely unaffected) and a couple of snails, that's it. I added some macro algae maybe 4 months ago and nothing since. I've had them for over a year. The only thing that I can think of is that I kind of let the tank go for a little bit and wasn't keeping up with the water changes like I should have for a few weeks. I've since gotten the tank back on track over the last few weeks and I thought everything was good, now this.

Yeah I guess it could be brook, though its not as bad looking as the pics that I found online. Any ideas where I can find formalin, is that the product name?

Because its a clown, brook is my guess too. If this is brook or velvet, the fish should be acting "sick" within a day; these are both very fast acting parasites.

Formalin is getting tough to find; but there are a couple of products that contain formalin and mal. green. Can't remember the name, but even Wal-Mart has carried them. Brook or velvet; all of your fish will need to be treated in a QT.

Also, if the tank history is accurate; either parasite would be unlikely. I wouldn't worry about "stressing her out". Moving a fish is no big deal; dying from velvet or brook is.

Without meds one hand or quick access to them, if your fish has velvet, it is a goner.

Tank history is definitely accurate, they have been the only two fish in that tank since it was setup in September. Before that they were in my frag tank until i took it down and still the only residents. I've alway thought stuff like this had to be introduced into the tank by a new fish or something. She is acting completely normal. I did see her rubbing against her pot but only a couple times. The male is showing absolutely no signs of anything. I'll get them in a QT tank tonight, I wasn't sure if the FW dip would stress her out and make things worse.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll order the formalin tonight and hope it gets here in time. Hopefully I'll try Walmart tomorrow, they weren't open today nothing was. If I'm still snowed in tomorrow I'll just walk. This couldn't of come on at a worse time.
