Fool me once, shame on you...
Fool me twice, shame on me...
Has anyone else had a problem dipping the ORA Hawkins in Coral Rx? I bought a frag in December, brought it on a 13 hour drive back home with me, dipped it in my previously usual dip of Salifert Flatworm Exit and Lugols (separate dips) and placed it into QT after acclimating it.
It grew great...and the time came for it to move into my grow-out tank. By then, I had been using Coral Rx for quite a while, so I was going to do my usual dip to make sure the grow-out tank stays clean and that I didn't miss something during QT. I accidentally broke a frag off, so I glued it onto a new plug and stuck it back into QT. Within about 5 minutes of the dip on the mother (strength recommended on the bottle and the dosage I've used previously), the coral was extremely stressed. I pulled it out immediately. After gluing the mother to a frag plug, the coral looked even worse, but it went into the grow-out tank.
The frag in the QT looked pretty bad, but survived and grew well. The mother colony was lost except one polyp (still living). I figured maybe it was the gluing process that caused the corals to look bad since the frag wasn't dipped.
Recently I received AEFW on a frag...and I decided to dip all corals in my QT. Guess what...the little Hawkins guy was dipped again in Coral Rx. Once again, within only a couple of minutes at the recommended dosage, it was dead.
So has anyone else had problems with Coral Rx and the Hawkins? I figured the 13 hour drive + Lugols + FWE dips would be death to the coral before Coral Rx. I've had great success with Coral Rx otherwise. I don't know.
