Really wanting to get one now, sigh, the coral bug has bitten hard and I need a job! lol

I think the best thing about it, aside from colors, is that they say it does better under T5's then MH

I've had that coral for over a year now and it is a great piece, one of my favorites. It has nice color and growth, but it is very similar to a few other ORA pieces as well.

Here's a shot of mine. It's about halfway down in a 30" tall tank with 7 T5 bulbs.

nice pictures guys.

What is the difference between this piece and the ORA Roscoes blue? From the pic's, they look pretty similar.

Good question. To me,I have a hard time telling the difference between the Roscoes, chips and Joe. I only know mine is a Joe because Live Aquaria said so. :)

Joe the Coral is a pretty nice looking piece, but it does look a lot like Roscoe's. The only difference I can tell so far from my pieces are the growth rates. Roscoe's is seriously lagging behind the Joe.

As for the Chips, whenever I see them I can usually tell by the appearance of the polyps. They look like the Purple Plasma.

Really? On the site I found it on it said Joe the Coral was a really slow grower.

am I the only one who still smiles every time I hear "joe the coral"

Nope :p

Mine has grown quickly too. Infact it has trippled it's size in a year. Reminds me of the a. boreallis ( I'm sure I spelled that wrong lol). I have mine at the bottom of the tank in some good flow and it loves it.

The growth style and size of the coralites are the biggest difference between those 3 corals... They are VERY similar though. The Blue Voodoo is almost exactly the same too.

I have a joe the coral from ora too. Got it abought 8 months ago. grown a ton and great color. Dont think you can go wrong with the ora stuff, i got 5 pieces in my order. my pink birds nest is huge for an 8 month frag. Plus with all the ora " frags " i've gotten , they're way bigger than the normal 1" stick frags. Usually have more than one branch and are 1 1/2 - 2" But you's are right, "joe" does look similar to other corals. But then again there area bunch of different corals that look alike

Oh mine is about 15" from 400w mh and loves it, med-high flow

I had Joe a while back and I forgot I even had it. The frag fell under my rocks and I never noticed it until my wife asked me what the new white coral in the bottom of the rocks was.

A couple weeks back I asked my lfs to get me another one. Wow it was 20 bucks cheaper. Now I can't wait for it to grow out so I can share the wealth.

Glad i found this topic, i have been having trouble with my "joe". I cant get him to color up right. When i first got it i bleached it pretty good like an idiot and didnt light acclimate. I did light acclimation, fragged it, and put it in two locations. One is brownish tan with no blue tips, and the other is the brownish tan with the tiniest bit of blue tips. I just cant get it to look like it used to :-(. For the longest time it showed bad PE, but now shows good PE, so at least thats an improvement.

I'm not sure how much light this thing needs, but any help would be nice. I have a blue milli at the same height and it looks great.

I got mine a while back, it was the cheapest ORA my LFS had at the time, which made me think it was a quick grower; it grows just fine for me but about a month after I got it I had a heater issue and the temp got up to ~86, I have never seen the polyps out on it since...:(

Mine looks very much like the ORA picture.

Grrr i would kill for the green to come out on mine. I tried moving my halide up some we will see if that helps. I think it was getting too much light.

I remeber reading some where that they dont need a ton of light. I have mine sitting on the bottom of the tank and it has been doing way better.
