Ora Mandarins Arrived today

005-1.jpg

Hard to tell for sure, but are both of those males?
The one on the left has a dorsal spike for sure, hard to tell but the other appears to have one as well, but pic isn't clear enough to be sure for me.
Also, is that a QT?

Some people do QT mandarins, but that is one fish I don't, due to their heavier than normal slime coat that makes them much less vulnerable to most health issues, disease/ich.
Targets seem to do better on a prep'd food diet, but I'd probably still dose pods(another reason why I get mine in display right away)
Hopefully they did send a pair, but they do make mistakes, maybe a clear pic of both to be sure.
They look nice, good luck w/ them.

Thanks, working on a better picture now, they are not fighting right now, maby because of shipping and age.

I have them in a QT to make sure they eat the ova I purchased for them and get them over the shipping stress.

they both appear to be males. keep an eye out for aggression later on if they are both males.

they are great looking fish, congrats.

i agree with the skipping the QT

Yep, I turned on the light now when I took this picture and they are both males :(, am contacting saltwaterfish.com now, I do have separate systems they can go in, but for now they seem ok.

Yeah, both males, too bad, but should be no problem getting that corrected.
I've had all male anthias shipped to me from another vendor, sucks, but most will correct that w/out question.

Hopefully I can help a few people from making a mistake. I ordered these guys from saltwaterfish.com. I contacted them and they told me all they can do is send me one of their females.

Well needless to say if it's not a ORA female im not interested. Plus your talking about a $40 difference. So if they do not come to the decision to give me back my $60 all I have to do is call my credit card ;)

Anyway back to point here is a video of the guys eating:

That's just plain terrible customer service right there.
Not only will I not buy from them myself, but feel like writting them myself to say how lame that is.
Anyone w/ any exp in these guys knows 2 males won't get along, and if anyone ordered a pair, it definitely should be male/female.
I seem to recall some issues w/ that place, though I've never ordered from them personally, sad to hear.
FWIW, targets seem easiest of the mandarin's to train to eat prep'd, and I would take the female I guess, but you're right, it's not the ORA you paid for.

Neat, just noticed they are a sponsor, which means I guess we should not really comment on them in the main forum.

I'm jealous to see them eating pellets! My mandarin looks at me like I'm a fool when I try to give her these! Of course mine isn't ORA... and it's a green one.

Ok, so saltwaterfish called me today and said ora can't tell because of genetics of the spotted fish what sex these are.

Here are 2 new pictures, feel free to comment.

Kinda confused how they can sell them as a pair without being able to tell what sex they are... :hmm3:

Exactly,

I started a new thread on this under the Saltwaterfish.com sponsor forum. They had on their reply that they would be offering male/female pairs as an direct option, instead of what I did, I requested a pair and after a few emails and chats they emailed me that they could pair them.

Soon after they posted that they soon would have the direct option to pair them off they took the statement down.

I understand they may be confused, and frankly so am I. They are telling me these may not be both male? Also they said they sent my pictures to ORA and they said ORA can't tell if these are male or female.

If you ask for a pair, or a mated pair you are still asking for a male and a female. Looks like two males to me?
