Just like the title says, my first fish in my tank. 16g biocube alk 9 sg 1.025 ph 8 ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate around 5ish now phosphates 0. Why does he turn white at night? He swims around like a drunken sailor smashing into things. Ive had him for 3 days now no qt, and I cant figure it out. He eats copepods/ brine shrimp if I think its necessary ( usually has a fat tummy ). Hes a tad shy of an inch long. What is super odd is he is completely black again by day acting normal again. First time I seen him like this I thought he would be dead by the time I got off work. Any thoughts?

From what I've read, some clowns will pale at night and color up in the morning (maybe a protective mechanism or perhaps just sleeping? Mine wallow around in the corner of their tank nearly upside down while sleeping). Other discussions I've seen (some people claimed their demsels did it as well). As for the smashing around, if you are turning on the lights suddenly, it might temporarily blind/disorient it. Set your light to gradually turn on or slowly adjust them. Add some mysis or a good pellet to his diet (just a side note).

Mine don't change from day to night. However, over the last ~2.5 years they have lightened in color. Not that real crisp deep black anymore.
