ORA Pink Stylophora

I dont think there is any animosity (that I am aware of) towards the OWNER of "a certain LFS". To my knowledge, that owner has done nothing but run his business.

There were however, other factions who were tightly grounded with said LFS and the CVRC who did in fact seem to take his ball blah blah blah. I fail to see how that in the end benefited the club as a whole, as opposed to a few select parties.

Ok, this is OT already from the main topic but since we're talking about that other club, here's my contribution.

To be fair, most folks at that club are great. When I joined the 'club,' I was all out -- I was really active in the forums, attended meets, helped whenever I can. I even donated reef parameter cards for the club that I designed and had printed.

I'm a forum junkie. I run several enthusiast sites and the admin of its forums for 8 years now thus I know very well the ins and outs, and do's and don'ts. What doesn't jive with me is this rule from the club:

... Several years ago we received help from several other area sponsors who have contributed to the club; you will find these listed under the CVRC support section. These are the only LFS and or entities groups etc, that will be mentioned and or advertised on this forum all others will be deleted and posters may or may not be warned. The CVRC will not be used as advertisement, or promotion for any NON_SPONSOR groups and/or commercial entities. Any posts related to products or services available at NON-sponsored stores , may be edited/deleted by moderators as deemed necessary.

Their forum system will automatically censor/mask names of LFS and if you become creative with the LFS names, mods and admins will manually censor them. For me, there are words that need to be censored in posts, but LFS are far from it, especially if it contributes to the discussion and help other members. I just can't stomach that the only LFS I can mention are the sponsors. I was even told that if I want to mention other LFS, have those LFS sponsor :eek2:. Here's the thing -- that will never happen. Would you think other LFS will sponsor a club run by another LFS?

Anyway, for me, if wants to be called a 'club', it has to be run by the members. Sponsors just place ads, sponsor part of the site, and/or donate freebies.

But hey, they do a good job helping locals with the hobby which is great. I'm just bothered with the club's setup as well as the rule I mentioned above.

When I made this post, I was looking for a particular coral and wondering if anyone knew of a good place to find it. As a hobbyist, I was open to the suggestion of area collectors, local fish shops, or even recommended online retailers. In the past, had I posted this question the answer would have been limited to 2 LFS (one not even local to me) or club members. The mere mention of other sources would have been scolded because they are not club sponsors. While I understand their reasoning, I never agreed with it. So I find it refreshing that we can talk freely about a wider array of retailers.

I respect what the older members have done with the club, I'm also thankful to ReefCentral for providing a free forum for them (me) to use which has helped the local club grow. You seemed have forgotten to acknowledge ReefCentrals part which was integral in the formation of the local club in question.

...as "local club", but instead we were generous and let you claim what actually belonged to the "local club" . So at least acknowledge that you would not be where you are today if not for what we did back in the beginning.

No matter what you do, as long as you are using the history we left behind you will always be that spin off club from the "local club" , so Please remember when you speak badly about us, you are speaking badly about your mother, father, grandparents. ....

As others have stated this quote is just comical as it was never your permission to give. The decision has been made by the mods of RC and split was completed months ago. Some have stayed exclusively, some have left completely, others are using both the local forum and RC. A little something for everyone. Since I respect many of the active local club members, I still occasionally post on the local board and hope to remain in contact with them. I know there are some good people on both sides. This isn't a competition.

Hey guess what, a photo of the Pink Stylophora I picked up from ReefSystems. The deeper pink is on the other side of the frag and you cannot tell from this photo, but the polyps are almost a blue color. It is a really nice looking piece.

Nice looking piece
