orange brown algea

i hired someone to help set my tank up (pre owned) 90 gal he sold me some live rock and set up a reef in my tank the rock after a few days i started getting a lot of orange brown algea all over the rocks and live sand is this good or bad? the rock came in a bucket some was under water and some was dry it looked like it was alive at one time ? i am just not sure if it was good live rock? will the rock come back if it was already dead? i am still trying to learn about all this. thanks for any advice

As far as i know brown algae is the first stage of knowing the tank is cycling.

probably just diatoms. I got them when I first started my tank . Should go away soon.
