Orange People Eaters

Anyone know if there is an orange people eater? I got a tiny little hitcher zoa on a frag rock about a month ago. It has tripled in size and is starting to sprout another polyp. It's got the distinctive yellow/green mouth and purpleish tinge around the center. Sorry for the bad pics but they are at a funny angle and my camera was about to die.

take a picture with a flash on auto white balance settings and show us. if you have a tripod or can brace the camera with something that will help too

that could either be a normal old red people eater with a $5 market value........or you could have seriously scored and be in possession of a polyp with a market value of $300.

its really hard to say one way or another for sure from what I can see.

Had to turn off the pump and take it from the top down. I hope these help a little but trust me it is really orange. First is with flash, second without.

I'd have to say no, if you use the pictures on zoaid.com as the guide.
The pictures on zoaid show a blue ring around the center/mouth.

Be interested in seeing a picture when they are closed up.

They do look like they are a bigger variety then the ones nearby, which elevates the cool factor,IMO.

look like orange people eaters to me.

Give em a little more light and they will brighten right up

Nice score there

Why closed up? Yes it is pretty big, dime sized. It seems to be getting bigger and bigger, very short and fat.

My K2 viper(70w) should be here any day. So are they rare, not so rare?

They are just in my 5.5gal so at the moment so only 26w of 50/50 PC.

EDIT. What's in your avatar....those are awesome!

A rpe morf.

Yours are under pc's now, the mh should make a nice difference.

You should acclimate them to the mh lights.
70 watts isn't all that intense, but alot more than the pc's.
Couple layers of window screen material, leave on for a couple days remove a layer, etc.

The K2 came today so it's up and running now, I love the color compared to the PC's. I have it a good 1 1/2 feet above the tank and I'm only gonna give them about 4 hours the rest of the week and then build up gradually.

Take pictures every week or so and save them.
It will be interresting to see if they change.

I have a colony of those and they are not the same type of polyp as the people eaters(Zoanthus Gigantus). They are very similar, but different. They are more like the x-men and lunar eclipse type palys. Here is a photo of the colony I have like yours and also my OPE for comparison. It is still a great looking paly nonetheless.

Yes, as I said above "Lunar eclipse" and all those similar to it are not PE types. The palys in the 2nd photo to my eyes are orange and not red and are under 14k Phoenix bulbs. Here is a colony shot of both the RPE(top of pic) and OPE(Bottom of pic) along with a few other orange zoanthid varieties. Please pay no attention to the valonia:)
